Just curious to see how fit the members of BF are. The exercises are the one armed pushup, squat and pulllup.

My Stats:

OAP- 20 on the right arm, 15 on the left
Squat- 100 before failure
pullup- 15

Please post your results fellow knifeknuts! :D

I don't think musculature is the best overall measure of fitness. How long can you continue to run? What's the most beer you ever drank in one sitting? When do you nod off when your wife is droning on and on and on about where she went shopping with her mother yesterday?

Lets get real. Athletics is for athletes, but fitness is for life.

Let's see. blood pressure is 115/60. resting heart rate 55. total cholesterol 145. Having lost 130lbs in 18 months helped a lot. I've hiked on the AT in humid August heat (I didn't say I was smart).
You do 100 squats? at what weight? that's a lot of reps for a major exercise.
I was doing 100 crunches with 10lb plate behind my head on my last cycle, now I'm doing 50 bicycles and 50 crunches instead, and upping it every time, building back up.
I work out at in my apartment and don't have a power rack, so I'm limited. My favorite lifts are deadlifts & shrugs with a trap bar. It feels like they work everything :) I'm only doing 200lb, but I up it every week, trying to find my max without injuring myself.

If lifter drops in to this thread we'll see some impressive numbers.

Here...Here! I raise my heine in salute to you! (Heineken....don't get excited, Ed!):D

Heinekin will do fine. I like Guinness Stout better, but I have to eat something first or my head will explode.

What about grip strength? What number of COC gripper can you close?
How many meters can you row on my C2 rower before heart failure(? Most importantly, how much Guinness can you drink before your face hits the bar? I used to drink 20oz glasses of Guinness, trying for a goal of one gallon.

Also, who's your orthopedic surgeon when all those OAPs catch up to your elbows?

Is a resting heart rate around 40-44 bad? I do have a heart murmur which isn't a problem. Just wondering if anyone else out there has a slow heartbeat. I tell everyone I'll live longer because my heart idles slower than everyone else. :D

A slow heart rate is almost always good. There are, however, medical conditions that cause abnormally slow heart rates. So, if your low heart rate is due to exercise and being in shape and not a medical condition, you have extreme bragging rights.

Professional bicyclists and other endurance athletes sometimes have trouble getting out of hospitals. After getting checked up after crashes, they must patiently explain to doctors that for them a heart rate of less than 50 is normal.

For a guy my size, my sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure are all great! Hell, for anyones size, their grrrrreat!

There are many legitimate measures of fitness. For example, there are many people who can probably not do many pushups or pullups, but can run a marathon. Is that person fit? And what of the competitive power lifter who can lift extraordinary amounts, but can't run a mile? Is that person fit?

The answer in both cases is yes. They are fit in different ways.

Is that a proper (Imperial) gallon or a mini (US) gallon?

I saw in a TV documentary a few days ago that a hundred years or more ago factory workers might drink 24 pints (3 Imperial gallons) of beer in a shift. Sounds incredible but they did work very hard in those days. Yep, found a link to confirm it. http://www.history.ac.uk/reviews/paper/hilton.html

Andy,

I've no head for math, especially conversion factors  , so I can't rightly tell you. I'm sure drinking large quantities of stout isn't much to brag about in the UK, but some Americans are squeamish about black beer and are thus impressed by those who drink it in quantity.

I actually feel like I'm in the best shape I've ever been in. I cut out almost all junk foods, eat as few processed foods as I can, and drink less than one soda a week. I'm at the point where I can finally see my abs coming up for air.

I usually just do push ups, crunches, sit ups, squats and use a couple of dumbells for my workouts. The next thing I need to do is incorporate running or biking into it.

Last time I checked my blood pressure, it was 115/58 and my pulse was right at 60bpm. Last time my cholesterol was checked, my doctor told me it was half the average level of someone my age (23). I guess I'm not doing too bad.

My post wasn't meant to make you feel small!! Eight pints of Guinness is impressive by any standards, except maybe those of a few Irish manual workers. Did you achieve your goal?

Andy.
