How fit are you?

Well,
Before 2/13/05 I could do 28 pullups, 30 chinups, 75 pushups, 500+ crunches and paddle a hawaiian one man canoe 12 miles faster than I could run (I could also run 12 miles). On the 13th of Feb this year I had emergent thoracic surgery followed by three subsequent surgeries. I spent 2 months in the hospital and didn't eat for 3 months. I lost half of my Lat on the left, half my rectus abdominus on the left, and 25% of my left lung capacity (as well as 30 pounds that I didn't really have to lose). Now, after 2 months of self rehab, I can do 54 pushups, 8 pullups (damn they hurt), 8 chinups, 300 crunches and I paddled 11 miles today, but much slower than 5 months ago. I can only run about 4 miles now, for some reason that is super slow to recover.

Oh yeah, I can still cut things with a knife ;)

Peace out, Josh

I agree there are various fitness levels for different disciplines. I used to be able to run 2 1/2 miles in 16 min, or 5 miles in an hour. Now when I run I am in severe distress in about 10 min. Might have something to do with being electrocuted years ago and having a pacemaker. These days on my off nights (3 times a week) I walk for 30 min, then hit the machines (at the club where I teach) for about 30 min. One set to failure(My grip is shot, so when I say I do reps to failure, on the pulling movements,it's usually the grip that fails, my hands are really screwed up from my accident.),three different movements for each area worked. Pulldowns , set of 12 with 200lbs, angular pulldowns 12/200, seated rowing 12/200.Military press 12/225, then shoulder raises db 25lbs, shrugs 20/135, calve raises 50/250, squats 10/225, suspended back extensions 12/body weight, leg extension 12/100, leg curl 12/100, ab machine 20/200 (yeah, strong gut), bench 12/225, then incline press 12/140, then body weight dips about 8 or 9,triceps are pretty tired by now, do 10/90 tricep extensions, then 12/60 overhead tri/extensions. biceps are last, preacher curl 12/90. This 1 hour workout kicks my butt. However, I can fight for a good 30 minutes, sparring or groundfighting, with my students taking about 5 min turns, this is more of a mental discipline for me, I just decide how long I am going to go and do it, no matter how I feel. I have come close to passing out a couple times doing this. I am 48 years old, 6'2", 240lbs, like to lose some weight, but my thyroid is screwed up, meds not dialed in yet, lipids /chol 168, low blood pressure, Resting heart rate around 70bpm (pacemaker kicks in if I get down to 50 and kicks me back up to 70).

Not bad for an old burned up guy, but I get discouraged sometimes, miss the strength I used to enjoy. I'm going to keep at it though, it's all I have. fuzzy.

What about grip strength? What number of COC gripper can you close?

COC #2 (195lbs?) with the right. Still not with the left yet.. (It's tougher with the left because of the way the spring opens up and twists slightly in the left hand.)

Benched 350 in a local comp. in April, which wasn't quite enough to place :o
Squat max in the low 400s, Deadlift in the mid 400s.

Pullups 15 or so (I usually do them weighted though), and I've never tried OHPs.

But then again, there are very different types of 'fitness', and it depends to some extent on what you practice and work on. Very few people have the ability to specialize in everything.

I'm getting fitter by the day.

BP is great, resting pulse is 55, VO2 max is 180bpm, my height is 5'9", and my weight is 150lbs.

The reason for it is that me and my 3 climbing buddies will be going to Grand Teton National Park in August to climb the Grand -the Exum ridge, and then the North Face.

Getting my game up for climbing with a 40 lb. pack for 11-12 hours a day over 14000 ft. is the goal. I haven't done one of these trips since my daughter was born 5 years ago.

I've been doing interval training on my road bike, rucking and climbing with a pack for 6-8 hours a day on the weekend, and climbing and bouldering 3-5 times a week for 90plus minutes.

Who woulda thought that I have to train for my vacation?

George

Not very (compared to a lot of the guys I ride bikes with). I have a resting heart rate of around 50-55 BPM, low blood pressure, and a sustained power output (on the bicycle) of around 200-250 watts long term, at least 350 for short amounts of time (this translates to roughly 18-20 mph for a several hours, flat and no tail/head wind, 30mph+ in a sprint on a road bike). I bench roughly my body weight or a little more, and squat almost 2X my body weight. I don't run, but when I do, I do ~7 minute miles. Many of the guys I work/associate with (I work in a bike shop) are cat 2 and 3 racers. I also backpack, and just finished a trip in RMNP with a pack that was between 60 and 70 lb.

My post wasn't meant to make you feel small!! Eight pints of Guinness is impressive by any standards, except maybe those of a few Irish manual workers. Did you achieve your goal?

Andy.

Back when I used to get into dark beers, I used to really like a Yorkshire Ale called Old Peculiar. I could, and often did, drink a case (24). This ale is heavier and stronger than Guiness, but better tasting. I only had one friend (an Ozzie) that could keep that pace-the rest always dropped out early.

5-11, 200#, waist 38. Legpress 600, bench 295, curl 45 per arm. Can't run worth a darn- few old injuries- but I will gladly take anyone on in a freeform rock climb. :D

Well i'm only 15 and i ride my bike 10 miles pretty much everyday. I'm kinda small (only 5'6" 128lbs.) but i can bench 140 and squat 185 three times. Not bad for a small teen.

I did a short triathlon this morning. BOY am I tired now (12 hours later)! (1/2 mile swim, 13 mile bike, 3 mile run) 1:20:38"

I finished 163rd out 430 entries. I finished 6th of 16 in my age category: 50-54. Bested last year's time by 2 ½ minutes. :D No bodysuit, 30 year old race bike, cross-training sneaks.

5th place was a full five minutes faster. 7th I passed in the last minute! Looks like I was right where I needed to be!

I row and train competitively in rowing, my primary sport.
