How Good are the United Rambo Knives?

Ok. It's time to fess up. How many of us really have a rambo knife, even though we still make jokes about them??? ;) ;) ;)

Dude, that is one boss knife. Check the sheath, that suckah is T-A-C-T-I-C-A-L! The pumice "whetstone" is a nice touch! Does it make the rad "Dunn-Duuunnnnh!" sound when you pull it out of the sheath like in the movie? The balde looks like it has a few scratches, from fighting communists, no doubt.

Those aren't scratches, they are polishing marks after cleaning up the blood splatter.

I'll fess up............"First Blood" is one of my favourite movies......something about "taking on the world" with a knife, matches, needle and thread...

And my all time favourite knife is the Randall Model 18....

Hmmmm......better go back under the rock now I think?!

My name is Tom and I own a Hackman "Garcia." Does that count? :D
I've never actually handled one of them, what's the quality like? I remember them being listed in the same brochure as Tapio Wirkala's puukko knives back in the seventies.

They are not polished as well as the Randalls from that period. Toolwise, the quality is top notch. A guy named Moran bought some, edged them, got them up in one of his sheaths, and sold them to his customers who didn't want to wait for a Moran survival knife.

i have one. ill admit it. one side is sanded down to 800 finish as a test. the other side is just scratched all to hell. lol.

I've got both the 'First Blood', and the 'Rambo: First Blood Part II' United Cutlery repros sitting in my box-o-knives(tm). The 'First Blood' repro seems to be better built than the other, for whatever that's worth. Har!

I've had those suckers for probably better than 10 years now, and got them in exchange for some counter work I did for a local knife shop back in the day. If you guys are really interested, I can take some photos of them if you want to have something to look over. Better yet, maybe I should sell them bitches off! :D

Mr. Linton, I will have you know that I am well aware of that which I speak.

Master Norris's talons are on his feet, his claws are attached to the fists of destruction and his fingernails are on the fist that resides behind his beard.

The superfluious third fist is the one that caused the damage to the knife, you shoulda seen it.

Any of you boys see the Moran knife for sale on ebay?

My Brother in law has the First Blood knife. Believe it or not, he had Gil Hibben put some stag handles on it. Looks pretty darn nice.

Hey,I have a United Rambo I. I don't use it but it's fun to play with while watching old Rambo flicks. By the way,I don't poke fun at them.Different strokes for different folks.YMMV.tom.:)

I,ve got one of the many knock-offs. It looks the most like the real thing out all the coppies I could find. It just doesn't have the screwdriver tips on the guard, and the compass is on the out side of the but cap, in sted of inside where it should be. Over all it's a good solid knife. It's just a little to clumsy for carry, but it's an attention getter. Nice sheath too.

Good to see my thread is still alive and kicking. Anybody modified theirs? I mean really re-worked it.:D

I'm thinking about removing the black nylon string from around the hangle of mine, and replacing it with the green that was used on the "First Blood" knife, or I could leave it as is, and have the blade colored black, like in "Rambo two".
;)

I have a Lile Mini First Blood. Its a 25th Anniversary Knife. Does this Count? Its real. Not a copy. Got it from Jimmy himself. Mike

Hmmm, It could work.

I think you guys are missing the point. would Rambo, a guy who obveously depends on his knife, switch knives year after year?(movie after movie) I personaly would find something that works and stick with it from frist blood on.

If you want a quality 'looking' rambo style knife without the real deal Lile, then try a "Bill Sanders Outdoorsman". I have his 6 3/8" version (he also makes a 7.5") and can not break it. I love the thing. He makes the handle/guard/blade connection exactly how I would if I were to build/design a hollow handled knife. A design which encompasses threaded handle tube/adaptor/tang, nut and epoxy, as opposed to just the nut scenario. It goes deep into the handle too (the handle is slightly longer than the norm).

The rakers are only good for 'scraping' tinder material, unless you have arms the size of a D7. Mine is god old 440c for salt environments, but Bill can do other steels also. Long live 440! These ooz quality and feel heavy and not 'tinny' like the UC version of Liles sly's.
