How good is a deers hearing?

It's more than just being quiet. You have to be a good hunter all around. You have to scout off season, you have to look for tracks, scrapes, mast, etc. You have to be in the woods at dark and stay in the woods until dark. You have to pay attention to the wind and the weather.

Never hurts to be lucky. My brother can walk in at 10am and sit under eating candy bars and come out with a nice buck.
 
How tame are the deer where you are hunting?

my family use to have an 800+ acre ranch with a100 plus cattle. We would drive an old pick up, it was loud and smoked and rattled, see deer all the time and they would give an "Oh, its you look" and go back to eating. Someone would come out to scout out the ranch in their newer truck and they wouldn't see squat. the ranch was about 500 field/ farm and 300 woods, working cattle, fixing fence, cutting fire wood or logging and farming. Me, my brother, and my dad the deer seemed use too, but some slicker friend comes out smelling like aqua velva or old spice and deer would be spooked for a little spell. Maybe if you have a regular place to hunt yu ought to just get to the deer use to hearing you and see you. and the deer may just think you are a regular to the neighborhood.
