Ok - I know Sebenza is the Zulu word for work. And I now own a large Sebenza. It's a solid knife. I'm carrying during the week in office, but still have a Zt 0200 or 0301 in pocket nights and weekends.

How hard do you use your Sebbie, and what are some of the more brutal things you've used it for?

I don't personally own one(not my cup of tea) but I sharpen one for a guy who abuses his. last time I got it to work on he was using it to clean grout lines in marble tile.

I use mine alot when I carry it. This past summer, I used it to cut tar paper and shingles ( on the back side only ) when I was building my shed and it performed great. I used some gasoline to remove the tar and sharpened it and its like new again. Below, I took some pics before I cleaned it. They are very tough knives, second to none in my opinion...............I am doing a kitchen remodel and I have used my umnumzaan, ZT 301, and one of my mnandi. Every One of them performed the tasks I used them for to perfection. I must admit the umnumzaan saw more action than the other two.

Ive used mine a lot, but just for cutting. Dont pry or anything with my knives.

I agree, I ONLY use my knives to CUT. If I have to pry something, I get the proper tool. As for cutting, the sebenza will easily last a lifetime with the proper care.

There was a thread some time ago that showed the sebenza in hard use. But cant find it with search. (been looking for an hour and just gave up) I had it as a subscription, but thats gone now. Was a good thread. Anyway. Use your sebenza. That is what its made for. It can take a beating! Using a Sebenza as an ornament and babying her is a blasphemy IMO.:D

General use, mostly cutting boxes, and occasionally serving as a kitchen knife when there aren't any better ones available.

Every now and again something a bit tougher like cutting through some wood and the such like comes around but otherwise my usage is fairly tame.

general use for mine too, letters, apples, some kitchen use, some woods use sometimes like cutting poles for fixing the tarp. Works and feels great!

Yesterday, funny you ask, I used the Seb a little harder than usual - scrape paint and caulking from a length of baseboard, pried said baseboard to expose nails, split said baseboard to get a piece off. Score, cut, scrape and pry... it did it all with style and no damage.

A friend got drunk and passed out on my floor and i used mine to cut off her undies before i put her in the shower....does that count ?

I must say that is one of the more unique sebenza use stories I have ever heard :thumbup:

I'm all for taking care of wino friends, but why did her panties have to come off?

Sebenza erotica aside...

How do you guys feel about a sebenza for bushcrafting?
Anyone with experience batoning and such?

Marthinus apparently likes it for can-crafting. I wonder if he batoned or chopped through that aluminum.;)

:D:D:D ha ha! Can crafting! Thats funny! I actually just cut through that out of boredom and it still had a great working edge. Not shaving but a working edge that still had bite when cutting tomato.

Bushcraft wise I think it is great worker and back up blade. I do not baton through logs only on the edges and creating fuzz sticks etc. Batoning I think is fixed blade territory and better use an axe:

I've read that if you do use you any folder to baton, you want to have the lock disengaged. I've never done, but it makes sense that serious pounding could damage the works.
