How has BF influenced your knife buying trends over time?

Has BF influenced my knife-buying trends? Oh yes, it certainly has. My spending has probably quadrupled, and my collection has grown exponentially, in both size and quality.

I think I discovered this place through a Google search for "Busse", after I saw a couple on Tad Gear, of all places. Sometimes, I wish I'd never found out what a Busse was. My wallet certainly wishes I hadn't.

The most expensive knife I'd ever bought before discovering BF was around $200. That was retail for a Benchmade 940. Through BF I figured out pretty quickly that you can not only find pretty much any knife you could ever want, but also pay far less for it than you would retail. I have bought very few knives retail since. Why should I, when I can almost get two knives for what I was paying for one before?

Now, I've spent well over $500 on a single knife several times, and think nothing of dropping $200 anymore. It's physically difficult for me to avoid buying knives, pretty often. It's a sickness, but one I greatly enjoy. I am very grateful that Blade Forums is around. I've had a lot of fun here, and learned a lot.

I get to see more knives than back when all I did as read the knife rags, but I don't think my budget has changed. I have been influenced to not buy certain brands/names by stuff on the fora, but not really been talked into much.

Much the same way except on a MP salary in this economy I can't afford another custom knife, just as well though as I'm pretty content for now.

Still havent broke from my personal best of $90 bucks for a S&M Wildcat (Slipjoints:thumbup:) been 2 years. Thats not to say i wouldnt but thus far i'm holding strong:D
BF has expanded my range of brands on my knife radar, its more of a treasure hunting thing with me rather than minty and deep pockets hope that makes sense.
cheers

"Influenced"? Not hardly. It's caused practically all of my knife buying.

I've moved away from Benchmades and tactical looking knives (Spyderco is the exception) and leaned more towards Slip joints and dressy/causual (terzuolas in micarta, wood, that sorta thing)

this forum "made" me spend some money, but all the money ive spend and i will ever spend on knives, ment nothing as compared to the knowledge ive learned here, and the luck of meeting very special persons
Bladeforums.com the place to be

cheers

With all the knife info available on BF, I cleaned house. I sold every thing except: A Busse Warden, Warren Thomas #2 folder, Mission MPT Ti and some Leu customs. These knives are all I need. Thanks BladeForums!
