How has discontinued BK's affected your purchases?

I remember recent thread discussing the poor sales and possible discontinuation of the 5 and 15 and I know some members decided to order one while they were readily available. I imagine there were similar reactions when Camillus stopped making the BK&T line of knives.
So, have you changed your mind about which BK you were going to buy because you heard that another may be discontinued?? Or in the case Camillus, you bought them before they became hard to find?
I prefer drop points, but I bought the 15 when I read that it would possibly be discontinued.

Also, does anyone know if there an official statement on the BK4?? One dealer lists them as discontinued by the manufacturer and another site says they are limited to what is in stock.

I talked to Ka-bar directly a couple weeks ago and they said the 5 and 15 are not officially discontinued as of yet. So what ever that means. All three are listed in the 2015 Ka-bar catalog and I have not heard any news about the 4 being discontinued. Just speculation and guesses. But they may be correct since those 3 knives don't sell as well as the rest of the line.

So they may be around a little longer, or they may be done for. I am tired of guessing. lol

Let's hope Ka-Bar comes to their senses and decides to keep all three because they are all awesome knives.


The BK-1 and BK-6 weren't really discontinued. Actually when Camillus went belly up, all the Becker's were discontinued. I wasn't a Beckerhead when all that happened since I am new to the game, but I can tell ya, if I was I would have been pretty upset. Good thing Ka-Bar picked up the BK&T line!
 
Yeah, I guess I should have said rumors of discontinuing (I may edit post). I am not as familiar with BK&T history so I didn't realize all those designs ended with Camillus (my bad). It does seem strange that a dealer would actually list a knife as being discontinued instead of out of stock though it hasn't been officially discontinued.
 
Seems like a good way to boost sales of slow items and get more mindshare for those models. :-)

If I didn't already have a 5 I might have picked one up on hearing the rumors because it's the closest I will ever get to owning a Fisk knife. I swapped into the 15 because it's more appealing to me than the 17 I traded for it. As far as the 4 goes... I was thinking about it until I got a 9. For as little as I use a chopper, I don't need two. Except the RBK. Duh.
 
I did go out and grab a 15. Great move on my part I must say. A lovely knife for food prep.
 
I was already considering the 15 when the rumors started. Then it went on sale and I was all "Hell Yeah gimme dat"! Then got a 5. Then another 15. Then another 5.

I too was thinking about a 4 but mostly cuz it was 'on sale'. Then the Kukri was announced. Then I got a 9 for Xmas. meh, will still probably end up with one, just not any time soon.
 
I'll probably pick up another BK-5 before they're gone.
 
The Sale sure affected my purchases ...lol 45 bucks I just had to buy a few. I might have to buy a 5 to experiment with, maybe a nother one to leave stock.
 
It made me buy 2 bk15s and 1 bk5 & a bk4. What a value on great unique knives. Otherwise I wouldn't have. Couldn't be happier.

Bring on the kukri, my cold steel kukri needs company.

1) Theory: similar discussions on Camillus did not happen. A: Camillus went tits ups. all lines discontinued. Bamf. Done. SURPRISE! Pragma: yeah yeah, rumors are just rumors: ie: 5 and 15.

2) Camillus? They went tits up. Nobody cared or thought they would be scarce. Another incarnation of Beckers. The second. Yawn.

3) Marketing

any truth to the matter? you won't know, really, unless you call the makers and ask. me? i don't know, and i'm in the loop. wait. i am supposed to be in the loop.

hell, even Ethan Becker isn't in the loop :> he IS the loop.

shit, the world is really screwed up...
 
Ethan put a 5 in my hand at SMKW last October. I was very impressed with it. It was light as a feather, and well balanced. For a second I daydreamed I was a ninja, and then a world class chef. Though, until that moment I didn't like the 5 at all. It's a blade that one must handle to appreciate. Then I read of its supposed demise. So, I jumped and got one. The hen got me a 15 as an early Christmas gift. Then I returned the favor, and got her one. I'll get her a 5 if she picks it out. The new pink scales have her wanting a full size. She really like her 15, so I'm guessing she'll pick the 5. Maybe the 10. I don't care... I have a woman who enjoys Becker knives. I'm a happy guy.

So when Camillus shut down, it was just assumed all the BK knives would be produced somewhere else?
 
Got me a reserve 15 and am on the prowl for a 5 as we speak.

People always seem to want what they cannot have; or perceive they will not be able to get. Be that as it may, I gotta go; I'm shopping for a 5.:eek::D
 
Yeah, tried to resist but too good a deal, ended up buying a BK5 and some hot pink handles for the wife today.
