How has your choice of EDC changed over time?

I still carry some productions like a Benchmade 940 but have now started to carry customs. My current edc is a Custom Alan Davis folder made to my specs!!! It is AWESOME! He is going to make another folder made to my specs and I will go ahead and say it will be another edc for ME!!!!!! Kevin :D:D:D

I used to carry a sebenza, but decided the quality wasn't there. I carry a Case Peanut now.:stupid:

When I was younger I carried a Buck 110 or a Buck 110 knock off. I can't remember what it was, but my father bought it for me and he leaned towards quality so I am guessing that it was the real thing. Then I lost interest in knives and stopped carrying altogether for a number of years:o. When I started carrying again I went cheap and bought a Cabelas Sawtooth, that lasted about a month and I moved on to a BM 710, followed by a BM556 minigrip. Now I switch back and forth between the 2 BMs and a little fixed blade I made myself.

I started out like most people probably do with a single cheap folder. Then i moved up to a single large folder, a cold steel recon 1 or scimitar. Then I moved up in quality and got a BM mini grip but I wanted something larger. So I moved to a 710 or mini rukus and I added an SAK to the mix. After that I started getting smaller slimmer high qualit knives and thats where I tend to stay. I went from liking the 3.5-4inch range to the <3-3.5inch range. I generally also carry a traditional folder or SAK. Most recently I added a small fixed blade in my EDC rotation so i generally carry three knives.

Edited to add: Sometimes i miss the big knives so I'll carry a large folder, my small sebbie, and a small fixed blade.

Serveral of you guys mention you have switched to a fixed blade, not to get off-topic but do you usually carry those hidden? and how so?

I don't carry mine hidden, I carry Inside my Belt but not IWB. If I carry IWB where I am it's considered concealed, which would make it illegal.

I started off with a cheap folder, then moved into mid-range folders. After that I bought my first fixed-blade (Buck 102 Woodsman). I then purchased an ESEE-4 and haven't even considered a folder. I now EDC an Izula and hardly know it's there. I carry it horizontal at about 1 O'Clock on my belt.

I carry them horizontal on my belt and my shirt hides them well enough. I don't actively seek out to conceal them though.

It started out with a small $15 vic when I was a kid. Then I had a schrade (US made) for a long time. About 4 years. Then I got a benchmade 707 Sequal. I was still young and stupid and I ended up selling that one for a few bucks. Carried a kershaw after that and fell in love. It's been kershaw ever since! moved from a chive, to a leek, blur (for about a year), to the storm II(about a year). then i got introduced to ZT, and now it goes between my 0551, 0650, rogue, RAM, and storm II (usually a mixture of 2 of them).

I EDC a SOG Vulcan right now, but I'm looking for something of better quality. A ZT 0200, Spydie Para2, or BM Griptilian for example.

To address the OP's question:
Over the years I've found that I used to "have to have" a 3.5 - 4 on me, but the reality these days seems that +/-3" is all I really NEED for everyday tasks.

My first knife besides slipjoints was an emerson cqc 7 because back in the mid nineties I was reading richard marcinko stuff and he had a cqc6, which was beyond my means, but benchmade had an alternative for me. Then I wouldn't say my choices have evolved, because that might imply that I kept upgrading to better knives, but I went on to a benchmade stryker, and some other BM choices, some spydercos, and now I am a hopeless ZT fan. Hoping I can score a 0300 soon, we'll see about that, but I am so in love with my ZT 0350 and 0200. Am thankful that I have the means to keep buying nice stuff, or at least, stuff that I think is nice.

+1 on that, loving my ZT's, and like you, would love to get a 0300. Can't wait for the 561 to come out either :D

Since they were first released I've never been able to move that D2 Para from my pocket. The only change now is that these days I cant live without an SE Millie in my other pocket.

I started out always carrying the biggest blade I had (like a bump or endura). These days I find a smaller blade to be more useful and practical. I also started out as a "combo edges are teh suxxor!!!! Supersharp PE FTW!" sort of person, but now I acknowledge that combo edges have their place.

I started off carrying a SAK for EDC, then I became interested in modern single blade locking folders, and now I'm slowly gravitating back towards slip-joints and more traditional folder patterns. I've just recently acquired my first custom knife and now I have a greater appreciation for customs and a much deeper respect for the fellas who make them--when you actually hold a custom blade that was crafted specifically for you, the value becomes crystal clear...

Good topic!
