How have you modified your Becker?

It is fun to customize a knife and make it work for your needs. My BK 16 is my single fave Becker and "if I could only own one" knife. I have stripped it, did a slight etch on the logo, and had a custom sheath made for it. If I am in the woods for any reason, hiking, camping or fly fishing, my 16 is with me!

Your knife handles are beautiful... What process did you use (I know you attached pictures, but novice knife-modifiers like me need everything spelled out!)?
Thanks zfjames, I used some old wood stain mahogany color I had hanging around. Took a few days to dry . I've seen a few people use clothes dye with nice results.

Love that mod!

I actually convex a Camillus bk4 a little while go. Now I'm going to have to try it on the kabar.

Also nice magua!

Thanks!

Have you used the bk4 since convexing?

I noticed a huge difference in performance.

The magua is a great little knife. Excellent at skinning deer and other similar tasks.

whats this whole Q-tip and electric wire clamp thing that I see people doing on their knives?
Good question! I thought I was the only person who didn’t know!! I imagine that it has something to do with adding a knife coating, because when you apply some coatings, you have to get an electrical charge so the coating sticks to the knife. I’m not sure though, and I’m sorry I can’t offer you an answer!

C Collin Wallace Check out my post #22 in this thread. The new Beckers are laser etched. To set that etching deeper before stripping you can use electrochemical etching. Like the Outters foul out machines used to take out lead and copper from your gun bore. I used a 12v DC power supply from a computer. Positive connection to the blade, Put the negative clip on a Q-tip dipped in a vinegar solution making sure the clip is wet. The electrical current eats away at the metal making the etch deeper. Dont stay in one spot to long or you risk washing out the original etch. The factory coating wont be affected only bare metal. Then you strip the coating from the blade.

Cut down the handle, textured the handle scales, and got her some kydex. Also, Plus put a little Brownells Alumahyde coating to break it up. What do you think?
