How have your experiences been with the ZT 0550?

Preacher scales on an 0550 are the perfect combo!

And the 0551 is my personal favorite!

I really like my scale but it's no where near as cool as your triple cam. If they ever get more in stock I'm gonna buy one. Which will lead to me buying another 0550

I love the 0550. I like the 0801 more tho. There is something a little bizarre with the 550 in that if you try to open it with the thumbstud in the same manner that you'd open virtually any other knife, it won't budge! Some people attribute this to inadvertently putting pressure on the frame lok, but that isn't the case...It's engineered so that instead of flicking it 'up' you have to flick it towards the front of the knife. Once you get the hang of it, it's terrific! Solid as hell and holds a wicked edge. I have 3 ZT knives and they are all great. I'd love it if they'd make something the size of the DPx HEAt or the Spyderco techno.

The 0550 is the ONLY ZT that I have ever bought that I didn't like enough to keep it. The way that I naturally wanted to open it with my right hand I always had a finger pushing on the lock bar which made it impossible to open. Every time I would attempt to open it and fail, then adjust my fingers to an unnatural position to avoid the lock bar, then attempt to open again with my thumb. I just couldn't get used to it and it was such an ordeal to open that I just got frustrated with it and sold it.

I'm starting to wonder if maybe there was something specific to the one that I had that made it hard to operate. There are so many people that just love the 0550 I am surprised at how negative my experience was especially given ZT is just about my favorite knife maker and I absolutely love every other ZT model that I have. Perhaps I need to give it another shot.

I had a similar experience. I bought an 0550 that I really liked, but I could not open it with my right hand, no matter how I tried. So I sold it (with disclosure). I really want to like this knife, but if it doesn't flip open easily with one hand, it's never going to get any pocket time.

Mine was hard to open at first but quickly smoothed out. Mine is like butter but in full disclosure my coworker still can't open it so there must be some element of technique involved. For me though it's super easy
