How hot can g10 and carbon fiber safely get?

I have a small knife I wanted to be able to make the knife and shape the handles in one day(I know silly idea but I don't get to work on this stuff more then one day a month) my plan was use a drop of super glue to hold the scales on the break the super glue off and use actual epoxy. There are no rivits on this little blade. To get to the point the super glue was stronger then I expected which by the way I expected to go flying off during the shaping and embed itself in my body some place. So I have heard that superglue is slightly water soluable and a couple minutes of boiling will get it off the knife is TI so no worry of rusting. The scales are layered g10 and cf and I don't want those to turn to some burning molten goop. Any suggestions will be very apretiated!

It's not soluble in water, it's the heat that breaks the bond.

If you use boiling water, that eliminates the possibility of a burning flaming molten mess

Flame is not as controllable

You can always put a scrap of material in boiling water and see what it does, then you will know for sure.

You can fasten the g10 in place with super glue and thing give it a sharp rap to break off. I use two dots that spread to less than a penny in diameter, no clamping just finger pressure. To remove I hold in one hand and a quick rap with a plastic hammer, the super glue is pretty brittle and breaks off pretty easy. No reason you cannot put in boiling water

Acetone works well. In the event you don't know this, Ti knife edges can't be hardened without Carbidizing. Something to think about!

I know this is an old thread but I figured it was close to my own question so I figured I'd try before making my own post. I just got a strider smf yesterday and last night I stupidly handled it to soon after applying newskin liquid bandage to some cracks on my fingers. I got a little bit on the g10 scale. It says on the bottle to remove it by applying a fresh layer and wiping off. I tried that only after trying paint thinner and acetone. The majority of it is off but there's a white residue in a small area. This really bugs me. I thought about trying to boil the knife or scale. I don't want to cause anymore damage to the scale though. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Scott

Freezing also works for Super Glue. Pop it in the freezer overnight and then give it a few light whacks and the handles should pop right off.

As for the newskin, I'm not sure what would take off the white residue, but a light sanding might work. A really really light sanding so as not to damage the scale much.

Yes Frank , there are hardenable Ti alloys. They harden to the low and mid 50s HRc.

I think you misread Franks statement.

G-10 is fairly heat resistant and should be fine in boiling water.

Information on G-10/G-11 is easily accessed online, including temperature limits before it starts deforming. I know because I was researching parts with high temp tolerances for oil drilling tools. If memory serves, ~300 degrees F is where it can start to fail.

just some side info, we heat carbon fibre to app. 180C to shape it.
After cooling down it is set, so boiling water (100C) won't damage it
