can i use my Battle Mistress to fish something out of a campfire? or to briefly stoke the coals with no ill effects to the temper?

i would think the temp would have to be much higher and sustained to affect the blade.

i think it would be fine just to "fish" something out but dont leave it in the hot fire for a long time.

A camp fire should not be hot enough or have substainable heat enough to make a difference in the metal.

However this IS too HOT!!

I would think you could whittle up a nice poker stick real quick and not put a fine blade in the fire. It's your blade though, stick it where you want to.

From what I recall having read, the INFI heat treat is pretty tolerant of temperature exposure, so I would think a quick poke at some coals would be OK. But, I would assume the coating is not as heat tolerant.

Jerry has told us in the past that the temper begins to fall off at 950 Fahrenheit. Micarta starts to poop out around 350. The fire won't harm the blade, but the finish and the handle....

As I recall you would have to attain a temp in excess of 900 degrees before you have to worry about the temper.

I just checked the coals in my wood stove with my pyrometer and they were 1100 degrees. Don't stir too long...

i've had micarta to 300 and it started to expand quite a bit between the rivets. i wouldn't let my infi get above 500, so i would suggest taping a rectal thermometer to the blade before your stick it in

you have a rectal thermometer that reads up to 500 degrees?

If you drop your knife in a puddle of lava just forget it, caus' man its gone:( Most of the coatings will not resist the heat of hot coals for much time. Listen to the guy who said "get a stick".

i think the mole jack could handle the heat of lava, it was designed and tempered for that work. remember to use the right tool for the right job.

strap on tools are pretty good! or was it snap on....????? never mind....

i thought tony was buying drinks
