How I Became a Knife Steel Metallurgist

Cool stuff Larrin. I'm surrounded my metallurgists, metallurgical engineers and chemists every day and my life revolves around metal production. I've never encountered such amazing science that is still, in some ways, voodoo. I often struggle mightily at work to understand some of the discussions and find myself doing a lot of internet studying. What for some many around me is general knowledge, is for me, light years above my head. I don't always get it but I sure do enjoy learning it and working with it.

Thanks for the articles and sharing your knowledge with all of us.

Very nice story of your life.
But 12 hours total of written and oral exams for QE?
Wow, it is very extensive.

I should tell my grad students about it.
They nag on a mere 2~3 hour oral exam/defense.

Yes it was a very old school, extensive qualifying exam. Even within Colorado School of Mines there were other programs that had a short exam.

Your poor wife..

I remember the time when my wife was writing her doctoral thesis, I was a 24/7 dad and since my she was living on virtually no sleep I couldn't do anything right. I learned to take really long walks pushing the stroller even in the winter.

Great story Larrin! I'm glad all you're hard work payed off! Even though your schooling is done, you will never stop learning!

The Knife Community Metallurgist for the people!

It's nice to have.

It's thanks to patreon supporters that we get to have our own Metallurgist that is independent and can give information freely.
