How I Became a Knife Steel Metallurgist

Hated my high schhol phyics teacher, but college physics was easy thanks to her (bless her old soul) the weedout courses were chemistry and calc. When they kicked out all the Iranian lab techs, they had to readjust everything (including my grades!) as they scrambled to find replacements.
The thirst for knowledge and how to build things is real. I often get creater satisfaction from figuring out how to build something or building jigs to accomplish the build than I do the actual project itself.

I enjoyed reading this article. I recall thinking, while going to school, that "one day we'll look back on this as some of the best years" and I do. It's funny how soon you forget how much it sucks to be poor and stressed with insufficient sleep. Nope, those were the good old days. It's a magical time. I'm glad the world is still cranking out some nerds, there doesn't seem to be as many as there once were.

Panaca?? I drive through there every so often for work. I can’t imagine living there as a kid... but looks like a nice place to retire. The best part is the high school radio station. It is a completely eclectic mix of 70’s to 90’s songs that are sometimes vaguely familiar, but usually leave me scratching my head and wondering where in the world they found them. Oh, and no place to eat. That really sucks after a long day.

Again ! You have to understand that only a tiny number of people know what a metallurgist is . So once more -- In the bank this morning --didn't know the girl and she asked
what I had done when I was working .Without thinking I said ,' a metallurgist ', oops there came the look . I said just put down "engineer" .Shaking her head with a look of confusion kept on typing . :D Well it's the price you pay.

I teach pchem and claim that with a good prof it can be the easiest and most logical division of chem. On the other hand some students just don't want to think that way.

Finally got a chance to read this article! Very interesting and a great read! Thanks for posting all the info you do!
