How I Flat Grind (No Jig in Sight)

Brian, I get those same burns! Try using Band-Aid Tough Strips before you grind.

Brian,

Good information on how you do your flat grinds. Your techniques obviously work. Thanks for sharing.

Great stuff Brian.
Even after years of grinding, I still sometimes have one good hand, and one tard hand. :p If I see this happening, I grind the tard side first and make the other side match that one. Then after HT, I can work them out to where they need to be.

Thought about this thread while working this weekend.

These pictures show what I aim for on larger knives concerning the bevel and spine meeting.

Here you can see the bevel on the Companion.

No doubt about it that your work is good, blgoode ! That's easy to see. However there are makers who use CNC machines to make near 100% of their knives and have thriving businesses. I think its important to remember doing it this way or that as you want to do is most important .
I say go to it and enjoy it whatever way you pick to do it !!!! In the end it's not how it's made but how good it is when it's finished. Frank

Hell, I didn't know for years there was such a thing as a guide.
A buddy brought over a few of his, and I promptly ruined everything I tried to grind. I just couldn't get a guide to work for me.
