Had a few people ask me how I load the springs so the wife took some pics while I
tried to show how I do this. I realize there are other ways but this way allows me to check the action before I drill the center hole of the liner.

First drill the front hole in the liner then the rear when that is done lay it out on a board then I use a piece of brass that I fasten down with wood screws I think the pictures explain it pretty well . Then I use a clamp and check the the spring tension or load on the blade with the liner under the knife. when i get the load
were i want it I simply go to the drill press and drill through the center hole of the spring and drill the liner then take the liner off and match it with the other side and thats about it . I hope this helps as I have received so much help over the years from you folks .

I read your post and looked at your pictures about three times before it sunk in a little. Please forgive my next question, because I'm fantastically uneducated on slip joint construction. Are you saying that the position of the hole in the back-spring is relative to the tension holding the blade open/keeping it closed? Do you then have to do the clamp process to get the spring to line up with the hole in the liner to fit the pin through? Thanks -Matt-

Sorry I did not explain as plain as I would have liked . What I am saying is put the liner under the blade and spring. Then use the clamp to put the tension on the spring and remember the hole in the liner itself on the tang of the blade has been drilled and the hole in the rear of the spring has been drilled . Then screw the clamp till you get the desired tension (remember the liner is under the blade and spring being held with the tang hole and the rear spring hole) when you get the tension set to your satisfaction by pulling down on the tip of the blade and letting it snap up THEN go to the drill press and drill the front hole in the spring liner that has not been drilled. Then you can take the other liner and drill the holes to match. I actually did not take a picture of the liner under the blade being drilled it was just a dry run so to speak. I sure hope this helps if not let me know and I will try to get a better set of pictures of the actual process.

Nothing wrong with how it was explained. I guess the one pic without the liner under the set up threw me. ( I needed pics and words to understand this) I got it now. Thanks for the clarification. -Matt-
