Cool doesnt matter to me, but aesthetics surely does. and for different reasons.
1 - I dont want to look at a knife, or carry one, that doesnt appeal to me.
2 - what is it for. recently ordered a new fixed blade for a hunting knife from TFK. been watching them for a while, but I did not want a brown, green, or black handle that would easily get lost in the woods.

Depends: My EDC is a multitool. No one cares that it has a plain blade from 2D, or that the handle is Titanium . . .or the blade id Damascus.

As I have written here before, Our son "surged" into Iraq in 2004 as a Marine platoon leader. I gave him a Randall #16-1 {"Special Fighter") that was speced for serious work rather than show, with a "border Patrol" profile handle and Nicle silver fittings. I thought about, but chose not to get it engraved or have a plate inlet into the handle for initials etc . . .

He may have voided the warranty by using it to open MRE packaging. I voided the warranty by having it bead blasted to a uniform dull grey. He absolutely destroyed any collector's interest by sharpening the false edge in theater.

He was surprised at the attention the knife got when he used it as a pointer during some incisor briefing. The proposed objective was ignored for a few minutes while it was passed around.

Later on, he said he preferred the Chris Reeve 'Green Beet he had as it seemed to be more rugged and less showey.

Spyderco is a brand that grew on me, when I first saw them I thought they were exceptionally ugly, but over time I started to see something in them, and they started to become more and more pretty :) now I just like to browse through knife-selling websites and look at Spydercos because I enjoy looking at them. Sadly I haven't ever seen a Spyderco at a store - or maybe that's a good thing, because I'd have to buy a lot more then!

Same, 'cept I still feel they are ugly, at least most of them to me seem that way. In my dozen or so collection of Spydercos probably the PM2 and Gayle Bradley 2 are the only knives I find visually appealing. And the Gayle Bradley while one of the "ugliest" is by far my favorite of them all. Handle looks like Gayle just squeezed a bar of putty and told Sal to make a folder out of it, it's exceptionally comfortable when you put the knife to work.

At first it was about the aesthetics. As things evolved I started taking a liking to the aesthetics based on the merit and utility.

I didn't like the look of the Arius or most of the Shiro models as examples. Once I learned just how capable and well made they were, the aesthetics grew on me and now I find both to be some of the best looking knives out there.

So here’s a ugly duckling I bought at the latest bladeshow Atlanta. After going to 4 straight bladeshows I started to feel like I’ve seen most of what normally interests me and everything started to look the same. So after day 1 I decided I was out to find something different and unique. When finally coming across Richmade knives, I was blown away by the absolutely crazy designs he makes. They were just so different looking and most by any means were not really functional as daily users. I consider his stuff more pieces of abstract knife art than anything. So I ended up buying one in the middle in terms of unique but also useable. I also want to eventually get his “Ratchet” which is one of the coolest looking knives I’ve ever seen.

This is one of two I bought, the other is just a larger version of this one.

A bearded ax folder. I've seen it all now. Very neat. :)

And this goes to show how everyone's taste is very different ^^ I for one don't care for the PM2, I had one and passed it one, amazing ergonomics but it's just hideous to me and the straight spine doesn't work for me.

Now, the GB2 on the other hand is one of the prettiest Spydercos I think, the handle, blade shape, it all just works really well I find. If only it was a compression lock, it'd probably have been the first Spyderco I'd've bought!

Haha, something about his blade designs just speaks to my inner childhood mall ninja self. And when you talk to Les tell him to start making some dam new blade designs! Oh, and a g10 Talos! 😂
Fair enough my friend 😁

That's cool as can be! I actually have that bottom one saved in my chrome on my phone! I ran across it a few weeks ago looking through knives for sale and thought to myself once the weather breaks and I'm making good it's going to be mine!

The knife must have tactical carbon fiber scales with tactical finger cutouts and all black tactical hardware and tactical black blade. Then I take out my tactical bedazzler and go to work to really make it shine. It has to be tactical cute. It adds to the package with one of those huge black tactical levers mounted to the blade to make opening as fast as possible,
