How is the BK9 sheath...Really?

When I carry my BK9 it stays in the factory sheath in my pack. Really just there to protect blade IMO...

I don't hate mine but I'm also not in love with it either. To be honest I the only real complain I have is that it is black, I'm not real fan of the all black but I completely understand it is the color that appeals to the widest range. I have never really handled a higher quality sheath so I don't really know what I'm missing I suppose. Eh I'm ok with that because it means that I don't have to spend more money on a new sheath. Perhaps my idea of what an acceptable sheath is will change once i get one of the tweeners and see what the quality is like for them.

Thanks everyone, good to know. The Beckers (especially the BK9) are great deals - but would be less so with an un-usable sheath. But since the stock sheath is useable, I can stick with it until some later date and go aftermarket if I wish. Gotta help out the homestate economy!

Yep the stock sheath is perfectly functional. I was fortunate in that when I bought my BK9 second hand it came with an AZwelke kydex sheath. If I pack carry it will wear that, but I would have no qualms throwing the factory sheath on my belt should I want the knife handy. It rattles a bit but can be padded out to stop that, and apart from the pouch on the front which fits an Altoid tin nicely, it also has a slot for the BK13 Remora.

So yes, buy the 9 (and go Stig)

It's not too shabby...but the measure of a knife is in the quality of the knife..not the sheath.

It comes with a typical cheaper sheath like just about any knife I can think of.

Like a Busse? Oh, wait...

There's a reason they don't come with sheaths though. For the price, everyone wants their version of the perfect sheath. Since Jerry couldn't please everyone, he pleased the one guy he could, himself (and rightly so). Like any artist, he had to make himself happy first, and they everyone else would be happy... or not.

I look at my new BK5 sheath as a place holder. I got the knife I wanted, but the sheath I want is a final decision + a few weeks of being made away from being here. Since they come with a serviceable sheath, I could take it to the woods right now.

Actually, I was thinking about starting a support-group thread for the stock KA-BAR/Becker nylon sheaths.... cause I kinda like 'em. Got one on my 7, got one on my 9, gonna have one with my Machax someday. It's a little tricky getting the Remora out when the big knife is seated.

I'm in. I really like the stock 9 sheath. I even keep my BK2 in a BK7 sheath I got just for it( Thanks Abrasion ) because I like it more than the original.
