How is the fit and finish of Randall Made Knives

I've owned dozens of Randall's over the years. All hunting models from basic #5-4 to custom order Ivory #25's and lots of #26's (my personal favorite to use). I like them but agree with much of what is said above. F&F is not consistent IMO but out of 2 dozen I only had one or two that I thought shouldn't have been sold as they were. I've since sold all my Randall's except a couple of users. I never did understand why someone would order and wait 3-5 years when they are so readily available from dealers and collectors. There is still a strong market for them, although perhaps not what it used to be. My point is don't be afraid to buy one, look at dealers mentioned above, hunt for a good price, or wait until Randall's semi-annual shop sale (April and Oct) and buy direct at factory price. If you get one you don't like, you shouldn't have a problem selling it.

I've seen people say this about things, not just knives, over the years and it's a BS excuse. In this case the knives are way overpriced for what they are and there is a wait time well into several months and they use "hand made" as an excuse for shoddy work? How the hell are these popular? Is it because people's grand pappy owned one and they just need a nostalgia fix? Sorry for the rant but I just don't get it.
You sir are exactly spot on!!!!!!! The fit and finish is hit or miss and their excuss for shoddy work being stated that it is a"characteristic of a handmade knife" is laughable. I've owned a few Randall knives over the years and I have yet to have received ANY with what I would call sharp. I recently earlier this year purchased 2 Randall knives after about a 8 year break since my last one and I can honestly say that they will be the last! I own a few other handmade knives from various makers, which I paid far less than that of Randall and have NEVER had an issue with fit/finish and they all arrived shaving sharp.

I think most people that do the years long wait do not know there are dealers who sell at list, with a couple to three month wait. But it is was easy to find in 1981, and even easier today...

Hello again, just wanted to follow-up on this thread. I did order and finally received the Model 16 Dive Knife with Border Patrol Handle. It has excellent fit and finish to my relief. No wavy scratch-like lines on blade and no bubbles in the handle. Not the sharpest, but not butter knife dull. It is heavy, even compared to a similar sized Busse knife, to my surprise.

To further speak on my satisfaction, I put in another order for the smaller version of the Model 5 knife.

Five years since bringing up this topic. Thanks again to those who added to the discussion.

thanks for the 5 year follow up. thats rare but appreciated. good to hear.

I got a handful of randalls..their edges came sorta sharp on mine. I wouldn't call them the sharpest I've ever seen, but useable. sounds like yours is similar to my 4.

there a Randall forum here in the collectors forums.... ya should post your pics of it.
