How is the Spyderco Autonomy for EDC ?

Anyone got any idea how l can resharpen the serrated H1 sherpsfoot blade ?

The Sharpmaker works well on serrations.
Run the serrated side over the ceramic until there is a slight burr then strop the backside to remove. The Sharpmaker can also be used to remove the burr. Just reduce the angle of the blade to a few degrees and carefully remove the burr.
I usually strop serrated blades after each use. Just a few passes on the flat side to keep from getting too dull and requiring a lot of work.
I know there are more than a few YouTube videos on the subject. Sharpmaker+Serrations will most likely get you a tutorial.

That autonomy is just waiting to be reground into a wharncliff.

I mean, technically the Autonomy blade already is a Wharncliffe. In a true sheepsfoot, the spine should meet the edge at a 90° angle, with no point at all.

Hi , guys. Until recently , l never knew that Spyderco made Switchblade models. But Then Mr. Deacon here informed me about the citadel , Embassy and Autonomy models. I did a quick search and learnt that the autonomy is the only one currently in Production. It looks absolutely beautiful and handy. Greek knife laws are sensible enough not to prohibit switchblades. So l decided to get one. I should have it in a month or so. I just wanted to know , how well this knife holds up for EDC tasks. It has , what people call , a sheepsfoot blade. I never used a sheepsfoot blade , so l am quite ignorant about them. Is the Autonomy a specialized knife or can it also make a good general utility blade ?
Appreciate the help.

Good for EDC if you live underwater, lol. All joking aside, knife looks pretty cool, but I think Spyderco is being wussy about making autos so they gave it a less dangerous blade so the Switchblade Police wouldn't hassle them. Just a guess.

Into a very pointy wharncliff...

This is a really cool knife. I was averse to it at first but after watching the BladeOps video I'm having second thoughts. The idea of a liner/plunge lock combo is really slick, of course like many things Spyderco comes up with I wonder why no one else is doing this (or why I haven't heard of it before, at least). Very nice work, whoever designed this needs a promotion. Or a few extra brownie points. Hell, or maybe just a brownie.

Neat design but the sheepsfoot was a deal killer for me. I understand it was designed for specific use but the blade style just didn't match my intended usage. Who knows, maybe one day they will make a clip point version.

Tell me about it . I really wish they made a drop point version. The Sheepsfoot blade is rather unsatisfactory for processing game.

Hehe, yeah, I was reading this thread yesterday for the first time and was going to chime in and tell you that was going to be a terrible blade for fish and game, then I realized the thread was old and you had already bought the knife so I kept my mouth shut so as not to rain on your parade. Now that you already know though I'll confirm your impressions. :p Still a cool knife though...enjoy.

A really interesting knife. Wish I had a use for one, but the Para 2, esp in S110V, does everything I would use an Autonomy for and then some. I still want one of course.

That sheep's foot is especially non-pointy too, more so that the Griprillian I own...

On a side note, anyone have further info about this knife being designed for the Coast Guard? Because so far as I know we aren't allowed to carry assisted knives much less autos... And the swimmers carry fixed blades

Nothing really, beyond what's been printed in Spyderco's catalogs, what Kristi has posted on the Spyderco forum, and seeing the orange G-10 version made specifically for the Coast Guard which, unlike the black G-10 version, has neither a clip or a safety.

Yeah I thought there was an orange Autonomy with no clip that was supposed to be a USCG general issue item, and not available to the public...

Reading what articles I could find (and knowing the Coast Guard lingo) it looks like the ASTs have switched to these purpose built knives instead of the fixed blades, but all the boat crews still run regular folders... Which are unit sourced, I've been issued everything from a $10 Gerber, to full size Griptillians, Enduras and Rescues, although ironically never anything in H1...

Sorry to derail the thread :/
