how is the spyderco perrin ppt ?

Diminishing returns be damned!!

Spyderco's Taiwan stuff is really really good. I've actually been quite a fan of Taiwanese stuff for a while, actually since Cold Steel started making stuff there. Then I became good friends with a Taiwanese guy while I was in grad school, and I realized that the Taiwanese people are really really cool cats. So in many ways I see the "TAICHUNG TAIWAN" engraving on my PPT as something to be proud of.

Also, the knife was designed by three French dudes, so it seems kind of silly to chant, "USA! USA! USA!" while I cut stuff up with it.

Pardon the lousy quality of cell phone pics, but I figured it would be worth it to get these up as is and get the point across.

I carry the PPT loose in my front pocket. Over the years I have realized that I have no need to tactically access my knife within miliseconds, and I like being able to put my hands in my pockets without having to negotiate my knife jabbing into the back of my hand. Plus, I always manage to snag clips on doorways or furniture and either deform them or snap 'em off. I'm not knocking the guys who love clips, I just find better overall ergonomics without one.

Here's my PPT sans clip and with a lanyard that I made with some gutted 550 cord. I still have the original brown and black sinnet lanyard that came with it, but I'm always trying things out and I rather like this lanyard setup.

And a couple of shots of the spine and backspacer. I haven't fully radiused the spine yet. I've decided to do it incrementally to see where the sweet spot is for me. I like some spine jimping, but wasn't a real fan of the sharp corners.

There are also some factory grind marks on the lock-side steel liner that are made more noticeable with polishing. I could try to sand everything smooth, but my real goal was to get rid of the bead-blasted finish and aesthetically tie the steel handle parts with the blade a little better. So, it's not as pretty as a full-on custom, but it really suits me more than it did when it was brand new.

Then I rounded out some of the sharp corners in the choil area. Again, not fully radiused, but somewhere in between. It's a work in progress.

And finally, I cut out some of the G-10 in the lanyard hole to make the lanyard loop flush with the handle. That way the cord isn't poking me in the hand when I grip the knife.

Like I said, Sal & co. provided a GREAT framework to express my own preferences while still maintaining the essence of this awesome knife.
