In a couple of hours I'll be loading everything onto a truck for Kentucky, and I'll be leaving next Tuesday morning. Since this is not a "Knife" show, the folks at the Montana Arts Council said that I need something to demonstrate how damascus is made. I couldn't think of an easier way to explain it than this piece. I also made a straight laminate piece that I didn't twist...just ground across it to expose the layers. We'll see if it gets the point across.:)

Was a bit confusing at first but as you explain it is a perfect sample for the arts council.

I have sample patterns in my shop but not to that extent. Have a good trip.

thats cool
and the only other thing i could see helping them understand would be clean the steel stock a bit on the "fantail" and etch it so they could see the different layers as they go in

I showed the photos to my wife, and she said, "That's definite proof that the pattern isn't just engraved on the steel, but proof that it came from the steels themselves".

I think you may have a new handle design there.

Travel safe, Fred

Foxbat: The show is the 21st-22nd at the fairgrounds in Louisville. I think its called The Kentucky Crafters Market/Show. I was chosen by the Montana Arts Council to go to the show, and they are paying all the bills....so I thought it would be a great opportunity for exposure outside of the normal "Knife World".

I'll be flying out on Tuesday morning, Wed is for setting up our booths, and Thur-Fri is for Wholesalers only (not sure how thats gona go), and then the weekend is for the general public.

I tried to keep the knives I'm taking in the lower to mid range..made some damacus pens, and a batch of EBKs, and even some damascus jewlery. Hopefully that demo piece will help explain how we do this to folks who have never heard of it.

That's very cool Ed, been thinking of something like that for a while for a table display, conversation piece, Just never got around to it. Everytime I go to weld up some steel I get caught up and have a rough forged blade before I know to stop!
