I am going to receive a ZT 0550 that is BNIB, and the lock up is awfully late. I have heard ZTs fit and finish is second to none, so when I saw the lock up (~70%) was that late I decided to still go through with it. That being said, has anyone dealt with ZT concerning a knife that had issues? How were they? Do you think they'll either fix it or let me swap it out? Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

They will repair or replace it no questions asked and usually have it back to you in 2 weeks (I live across the US from them). They have repaired my ZT300 twice (Both were due to me) and had it back clean, fresh, and ready to go.

best service i have encountered from any company, not only knife companies i mean all companies, they are the best!

The best in the knife industry. And among the best in any industry. Pretty much any repair part that you need from screws to pivots to pocket clips they'll ship to you at no charge.

Awesome, glad to hear. I can't wait to get this puppy, I've been waiting a good 8 months for this. Thank you for responding.

This ^^. I live halfway around the world from them and when I asked about purchasing an extra torsion bar, they sent me extra clips, screws, pivots, and torsion bars and didn't even allow me to pay for shipping. Da best!

Kershaw warranty service is awesome. Sent in a Speed Bump that had a crack on the spine near the lock and got it within two weeks after they received it. The blade was replaced with a sterile one and the lock fixed. Just follow instructions, fill out the form and send it in.

The 0550 is designed to have over 50% lock-up, so there's probably nothing wrong with your knife.

I really don't think it is. I have been obsessed with this knife for about 8 months now, and watched a shit ton of videos on it. In every single one of the videos the lockup is very early, around 20%. This is a how a frame lock is supposed to be designed because it leaves room for the lock bar as it is worn down. If it started over 50% there is almost no room for it to break in and move over the years.

I'm sure lockups vary from one model to another. 50 percent is a good and secure lockup with lots of room for wear. As long as there's no "lock rock" or blade play, I'd say the lockup is fine. If everything is perfect otherwise, you're good to go. However if it really bugs you, have it changed by the dealer or send it in anyway.

I'd just use it until the lockbar actually touched the other scale or had blade play. The typical problem is that people don't use the knife and just stare at the lockbar all day.

You are correct. The lock up on this knife is late intentionally. Same thing with the 0551.

Once a framelock settles in there will very minimal movement. For example nowadays most CR knives come with about 70% engagement out of box and you dont hear people complaining about them, and out of 7 0551s I've owned only one has had early lockup(15%) while all others had over 50%.

Don't dwell on it, unless you have handled many frame locks you won't even know what to look for in a properly fitted lock. As long as it does not slip and locks tight you will be fine.

If it needs work though kershaw will take care of you.
