How legal are you?

actually, along with the intent, in Illinois a person is presumed to be armed with a deadly weapon, a felony, if the blade is over 3". in chicago, it is illegal to have a blade length of ver 2.5", so i carry my Camillus Mini Taln, or the slightly illegal (at 2.6") BM 705 axis. i have gotten starnge looks for the mini talon, so i think chicago in general is a totally lost cause. seems silly to me.

Being that I'm a full time student, I have state, local, and University laws to bother with. To avoid them, while at school, I carry usually a sub 3 inch folder. While at home or otherwise, I will carry up to a 3.5 inch folder. State law is 4 in, as is local, but I don't want to risk losing my blade or worst...

I am with Razor on this one. I am legal 100% of the time. It is very easy to stay legal in NY state.

I should probably note that one reason why I am cautious about knife laws is that I don't want to get in trouble while carrying a legally-concealed firearm.

I'm informed that 4" is the unwritten rule in my city for folders. I'm pretty sure I'll stay within that limit unless I'm overcome by a buying urge at the CKG show in October. Note to self, must get pants with bigger pockets....

Actually in IL a knife blade 3" or more can get you charged. - At least that is the way I read the law and I lived in IL for many years.
I would not count on an LEO letting you go.

Fortunately, IL state law is based on intent, rather than blade length, so it's not hard to stay legal. The problem comes with municipal ordinances, like Chicago's, where 2.5" can get you in trouble. If I know I'm going into the city, I'll make sure that I'm carrying kosher. But sometimes I don't know ahead of time, and trust in my good behavior and silky smooth "I'm sorry officer..." patter to keep me out of the hoosegow.

I lived in GA a number of years. Max legal length is less that 3" - anything more can get you charged. And it the knife was made for or looks like it is intended to be used for "offensive or defensive" purposes, you can be charged. Don't count on LEOs to let you go.

I really don't have a very good idea of what's legal and illegal here in Georgia. Most knives I carry are 3.5" but there is no limit. It just mentions that knives designed for the purpose of "offense and defense" are illegal, which is confusing to no end. For instance, if a knife is designed purely for defense, would it be legal? I don't know, so I'll just carry what seems sensible to me. Unless I'm breaking the law, they probably won't hassle me.

i am an investigator w/the texas dept of criminal justice pardon/paroles division, and am CLEAT certified, and am not a parole officer - i work with a parole officer(s) in supervision of high risk parolees ( is - repeat offenders, violent offenders, sex offenders, etc) so i dont worry much about knife laws in texas - i carry what i want to - i also carry a glock 32C or 33 .357SIG, and a kel tech P32/colt detective special .38 as back up loaded w/125grain winchester ranger SXT in the .357, silvertips in the KT, and 110 grain +P+ 'treasury loads' in the dick special - i carry usually my crawford custom kasper fighter in my RH fron t pocket(my BM AFCK 800S when i dont...), and a SIFU in my back RH pocket - also carry a livesay 'woo' in my sock too - and also carry a BM bali on occasion, and pepper spray, asp, etc - a lot of stuff lol - but i do worry about my wife, she carries a GT 100411 mini auto(occasionally), less than 2" bblade length but still an auto under the law - so no i dont worry at all about the law in txabout autos, etc - it dont apply to me - but do try and keep the wife in compliance lol - and i also hope to finish my masters and teach one day, and leave this rough stuff to the kids - i'm getting too damn old for this lol- and that will put me under the regular tx law, which is ok, 5.5" limit, etc - but i try to comply .........
