How long do flippers last?

A good quality flipper will need little maintenance and will operate properly longer than you’ll own the knife. The tolerances of a quality knife will allow for longer life.
Quality doesn’t necessarily mean super expensive.

Here’s a thread to look through and read peoples thoughts on different knives

Seriously, I know I'm a bit of a slvt for them but my first nice framelock aside from a Red Line Benchmade I gave my brother was a Kizer Velox2.

A Velox2 I still have, that's still smooth as the summer I bought it, that has demonstrated fine edge retention across years of casual carry, that has the same wiggle-free sturdy lockup it's always had.

And I haven't even cracked it open to reset the pivot with fresh thread locker and a thorough swabbing since like 2017.

My advice for someone interested in a modest upgrade is to see what's out there for special sales or closeout deals on a Kizer framelock. With a little patience and flexibility about the model you end up with, there's a chance you could get a reliable lifelong knife for not much more than a hundred dollars. Some of their discontinued models are hidden gems, and some of their derpier looking models are actually brilliant in hand (the Quell).

Get a Civivi. Snappiest little $40 flippers you’ll ever have. Built pretty darn good too. If you keep ‘em clean and oiled they should basically last foreverever.

I also second the Kizer vote. I own a discontinued Kizer Sovereign that runs on washers (tougher than bearings), and yet has gorgeous almost fall shut action.
