How long do you EDC a new knife before rotating back?

I bought my BM5000 2ish months ago and just today have been able to bring myself to switch back to my old EDC (MT socom elite-A). lol I never could make myself. And really the only reason I did this time was because the BM was dulled and I didn't have time to work on it due to repairing someone elses knife. it's not that I like the BM that much better or anything. Even though I do like it better for EDC.

I edc a new knife until I don't like it anymore, or I get a new knife. Sometimes it depends on what type of knife I want to carry also. I have bought new knives, and never use them until a month or so later. Right now I am into edc slippies, but that might be because I just bought a few nicec one :D . Next week it could be my Bradley Mayhem. Carry what feels good to you.

I always did that, but that was before I got a few I liked.

I typically change every day....during the work week folders on the weekend most of the time a small fixed

I rotate my EDC pretty regularly now. When I buy a new knife, I usually only carry it a week or two before I buy a new one and start carrying that. I'm really picky now, it doesn't take much to send me to Knives Plus or New Graham. "I don't like the blade finish" or "this would be perfect if the clip were just a little different" or even "this knife is too perfect, it doesn't have any quirks/ personality".

Sometimes I'll go back to some of my old favorites, but if I carry the same knife for more than a couple weeks now, it's noteworthy. I try to use all of my knives for at least a little while, so I have an appreciation of how well they work (or don't work). I'm not overly SD oriented, so developing muscle memory with a particular knife doesn't interest me much. I EDC mostly for fun, because I can, and I like sharp and shiny things. A waved Emerson is a pretty bad-ass letter opener at work! (I have my own office, so I can be as dorky as I want).

I need your job. I wish I could spend money on a new EDC every other week. really, the only reason I bought the BM was due to the MT failure and I had to send it back. so I needed a new one because I didn't like any of my old ones much. Well that's a lie, my 3rd back previous EDC got rotated into my turnout gear due to being very easy to open one handed with heavy duty gloves. CRKT m16-14T. Plus I hated teh blade steel.

I have a pretty standard EDC rotation. Even when I get a new knife for EDC, there is always a "It has to prove itself" break in period. The New knife goes into the primary spot, and a "tested, faithfull" knife goes into backup.

I will rarely carry a new knife if I know it is going to be used hard on that given day. Once it proves itself to my liking, it just goes into the rotation.

I carried an Endura for years---then went to a Griptilian about a year ago---got a BM 5000 auto--tried for 2 weeks and went back to the Grip mainly for legal reasons plus I'm just used to old tried and true.

Have added a small fixed blade in addition to the Grip recently too.

did you not like the 5000 or was it just legal reasons?

I have really developed a fond appreciation for Benchmades, but I have been falling into some really nice discontinued Spydercos recently. My main EDC is a pair, my BM 710 and 705, one 154CM and the other ATS34. On the weekends, I switch over to my Ritter Grip and small Ritter Grip. I've thrown in my Benchmade 635, and my BM Rukus. The 635 and 610 have been thrown in WITH the 710 and 705. So, every new one that I pick up, goes WITH my regular EDC rotation. The only one lately that has knocked my 705 and 710 out of the rotation is a Spyderco Jess Horn I picked up, but it was in such pristine condition, that I had to put it back in the roll.

I EDC the same knife until I lose it. Then I buy another just like it.

Too funny:D

I would say about a week. By then I know if I need to thin the edge down or any other mods I would like to make. At that point the knife becomes a "project" and it goes on the shelf till I have time to deal with it.

After the mods it goes into a whatever I grab first type rotation...

Well, that is a tough question to answer. I may carry the same knife for months on end. When I get a new knife, I like to give it some pocket time, to see if I like it for EDC, or if it has any faults.

The 5000 is a nice knife---but the Grip just seems quicker and lighter---also the handle notches are harder on the pants and just plain harder to get in and out of the pocket.

I do not "EDC", I "TODC" (Time Of Day Carry) because during an average day I will change my carry uaually three (or more) times depending on the circumstances and what knife I select from my "active" bag. (I have an "inactive" storage for collectibles and etc) New knives do get a little more clip time but they are in the rotation just like my other knives, If circumstances are right I may not carry a new knife for a few days but I admit that is usually not the case. I did recently float over a new BM-Vex I got for about a two weeks before I got it in pocket. What can I say, I'm "knives knuts".

I don't have any rotation. I just carry the blades I need and like the most.
