How long for stiff Sebenza/Inkosi to break in?

Just wait until you buy an Umnumzaan, then you will really appreciate proper thumb technique!

I'm glad it's all working out Craig. Three at once is rare my man, going in deep! You have got some good advice here, I bet they're opening easier now! No one has mentioned keeping pressure off the lock bar in this thread, maybe I missed it. I wanted to comment on you saying a fine knife like a CRK shouldn't cause a callus. You had three knives and were opening all of them a lot. If you were just opening it when needed for use, even doing it wrong probably won't be often enough to form a callus.

Picture of the trio?

And four now..? Are you married? Still?

Technique is everything with the thumb studs. However stiffness could be old grease. Check b day and if it’s been sitting for 6 months it might need a cleaning and new grease. Both sebenza and inkosi can be fidget knives if clean and set up properly

Ok. Well I am making progress. I loosened to pivot, added some grease to the ceramic lock ball, and even flexed the lock itself with a plastic tool to try to stretch it out. The big breakthrough was figuring out how to get the meat of my thumb on the blade behind the stud - which is a really small space in the small Inkosi.

Here's a video:

So, I’m curious — did you ever disassemble and grease the 21 tanto to try to smooth things out? If so, did it help at all?
Oh yea many of times. It just was one that never really got as smooth at the others
Take a look through this thread on damascus Sebenzas, it shows similar marks in the same spot on a lot of members blades. Those spots don’t usually show up on the stonewashed blades so it’s not as apparent,
First thing I noticed when I got my first Damascus CRK

I am married still. She puts up with my cars, guns and, now, knives. On the other hand, I think she will be buying a few Rolexes in the next couple of months (DOH!). I have definitely jumped in the deep end!
