Well, people's interests do change and that is especially true relative to the size and kinds of knives that one would purchase and use. The changes as well as the "compelling" part is what keeps people buying more. It's fun also to try different things. For me, I don't sell my unused knives. They just pile up in a plastic tub or two that I store such things in. The accumulation of money spent does not bother me. So, people are different. I however limit my choices to knives (and cost) I believe I will use with the exception of some very large fixed blade knives that I mostly buy for the fun. If and when my interests change, I'll give them away, or toss them in the trash if I really want to get rid of them.People's interests don't always last. I got here one short year ago, and in that time I've bought and sold a few "expensive" knives (although that's relative) and owned about ten knives. I've since sold off all but three.
Undeniably, there's something compelling about a well-designed knife, and new people come into the hobby all the time, but I believe people leave the hobby just as regularly, as practicality and money play a role in continuation.
I still admire them - just unsure whether I'm going to buy any more of them.
Been using and carrying knives for a long time and that is not likely to change. If a change occurs, will likely be because I'm bed ridden (hospital/sick) or very limited in the kinds of physical activity I can participate in.
