How long is the Persian (75mm) going to be around?

It's a very beautiful knife, looks comfy to hold, good size, I hear it's a great cutter, and I'm half Persian (not to mention it's a Spydie), so I feel I must have this knife! The thing is, I'm going to be buying a guitar and bow very soon, so I probably wont be able to buy this knife until July, I know that it's a custom collaboration, so I wanted to see how long it would be available.

Also, New Graham has 2 different Persians listed, the 75 mm and another one (only have the 75 mm in stock), which I can't help but think there's some kind of mistake in the description of it: Length Blade 3." Length Closed 5.2

A 5 inch handle, really?

Hey Habit. I believe Mr Ed Schempp has co-designed 2 different Persians with Spyderco; the original large one (I'm searching for one, wink-wink ) and then the baby bro, the 75mm. The big one is no longer a cataloged item, so it's on the 'discontinued' roster. The 75mm is still in the 2007 line-up. As for how long it will be available, that's up to Golden/Earth. I can speak as to the baby bro that it is indeed a comfortable & well designed knife, and has some bolster weight to it, relatively speaking, for it's size.

Good luck with your search, and good to hear more praise about the knife!

My birthday's coming up... maybe this will be my present to myself.

Habit, you are very likely safe until at least the end of the year. Spyderco normally discontinues knives around the end of the year. Usually even after discontinuing, you can find knives in stock for a few months or even years later (depending upon model of course)

Notice I used words such as: likely, at least, normally, usually. That is because nothing is concrete until it happens.

Heck if I could predict the future, I would be working on Wall Street. :D

Alright, that's most likely good to hear :), I won't rush to buy it or anything (gotta get it before October though, need to get myself a Stretch 2!).

Yes, as the picture below shows, there are two versions of the Persian. The original C83 which was discontinued about eighteen months ago, and the current, smaller, C105 75mm version.

By my ruler, the specs are:

C83 Blade 3.50" Handle 4.80" O.A.L. 8.30"

C105 Blade 2.95" Handle 4.00" O.A.L. 6.95"

Hopefully Sal can chime in soon... maybe he's away for Easter.

Don't hold your breath, although Spyderco is the best with keeping in touch with their customers, announcing when a model will be discontinued prematurely isn't likely going to happen. :)

Well, my hope is he'll tell me I'd be safe to wait until August-ish.

I'd tend to agree with Zenheretic - don't hold your breath waiting for the answer.

I doubt the Persian would stop production this year (as it is a 2007 model). However, remember that there are many discontinued models that are readily available. You should be okay.

Though if you want a Stretch, you might not want to wait around that long. The SFO only has a couple of the Stretch model left. Don't know about other places (like NGK, etc.) though.

It's actually the Stretch 2 that I want... I guess that 2 slipped out of a post somewhere.

You're probably right about the Persian, though... thanks everyone.
