How long to grind bevels

Hay Guys,
I was just curios as to how long it usually takes your to grind out a flat grind on a blade.

I kinda want to know if my machine is slow compared to yours since I use a 6x48 with a 36 grit belt with a 1 horse motor.

I just ground out a 13" blade that was 2" wide full height flat grind for a customer and it took me about 40 min and 2 belts. How long would it take you?

Thanks
Jake

Kinda need more info in that. Are you talking about a forged or a stock removal?
I forge mine and it takes me about 10-15 min and I've been using the same 36grit belt for while now, 3 or 4 blades.

Sorry about that, meant by stock removal. When I forge out a knife it only takes a few min to grind the bevels.

I really think that would vary from maker to maker. On a 2" X 13" blade that sounds about right. I use 40grit but blade design seems to effect time also. Remember 5 min. on the anvil saves 20 on the grinder.

I probably spend 30-40 minutes at this point just to get the grind roughed in and progress from 80 grit to 150, 220, 320, 400. After that, I may spend another 15 minutes at the grinder after heat treatment or to remove any serious problems I find during hand sanding that I can't sand out. Mostly, once I get the grind to 400 and it's flat, it's all hand work from there to a finished blade.
