Once a person commits to buy, how long do you think is reasonable to wait without any contact/payment?

The person has not been on BF in the time being either, so not sure if they are on vacation, sick, etc.

Just want to see what others think.

1st contact gets dibs until later that night. if next day no contact is made i will take next guy with paypal ready lol. money talks

I disagree. If you treat people like that you will get a really bad reputation in no time, then no one will wnt anything to do with you, this ain't ebay.

On topic:
I would think a reasonable amount of time to wait is 24 hours to reply to your email. I have no idea what you are selling, but you need to be clear and reasonable in your terms. I've seen "Payment within 1 hour of I'll Take It" is pure BS, and I always pass on those threads, as do many people.

If it's been more than a couple days, then I'd say you got a flaker on your hands. In which case, wait the 2 weeks and relist it or resurrect your thread. You can't bump it, but you can see if if you sort by last post.

As far as leaving feedback is concerned. No deal was done, no money changed hands, no product was shipped. There is no room for feedback because nothing happened. As infuriating as it might be, you aren't out any money or a knife, but gained a little frustration. Make a mental note of the buyer and just move along.

Not sure if it is frowned on, but even though you cannot leave feedback in Itrader, I believe folks should start leaving feedback in the GB&U for these flakers. It does not take a lot of effort to say "I am sorry but I cannot actually take this item I agreed to purchase". What does take a lot of effort is after you mark something sold and wait 2-3 days for a response, where your post floats to the 2nd or 3rd page, you have to now wait the 14 days to repost or hope that folks will look back in the forum to find your sale.

Edited to add: I would agree that 1 hour response time is a little bit severe. Though we all have internet, work/life may not lend us time to access it 24/7

i also pass on the payment in one hour, but what i simply said was if i don't get a response by the next day (so about 24 hrs) then i will move on to the next interested buyer.

and don't forget nowadays almost every body has access to their email from their phone or the surrounded computers. when i am anywhere except the crazy work environment I'm never more than arms reach from email access. so if he is truly out of touch maybe give the buyer as long as you can go until you open the item to other potential buyers.

i do see no disrespect in seeing who else wants the item if he hasn't even contacted you within (3days) if i waited that long for a simple email back i would personally mark the object as still for sale.

g/l making contact

Agreed - It has been 2 weeks since the person posted "I'll take it" and said in an email that they would send a PMO.

This is where I disagree, the person committed to buy. So by not leaving feedback the person can do this to others, and they would have no idea that the person has done this before.

That is why you start a thread in this dorum, alerting the public as you deem necessary. However, iTrader should only be used when there was an actual transaction to rate. We do not want to get into the habit of using iTrader as a sanction for inconveniencing us. As mentioned earlier, you still have your items, you are not out any money...are you? Check outnEsav's post about this very topic:

Thanks for the link. Starting a thread here is still leaving feedback that others can see, so that makes sense.

No sweat, I agree a thread is a good idea. I've dealt with flakers and it is aggravating but I was glad to be out a little time and not any money or the knife. I make a mental note of the experience and just try to sell the item to someone that won't flake on it.

Two weeks is way too long. Especially when the buyer is using a money order he needs to stay in touch. With PayPal you get an automatic notice when payment is made. With a money order the buyer has to confirm sending it ASAP.

Two DAYS or three is plenty of grace before taking the next bidder. If the original buyer comes back in a week wih a plasible story -- tough luck. The world goes on. There will be other knives.
