How long to wait?

I have a question about a knife sale over the internet. It is not with this site but I sold a knife on another website. On Saturday March 27th someone was interested in my knife and offered to buy it for my asking price. He did not want to use paypal and said he would mail a money order out on Monday the 29th. I e-mailed him on the 30th to verify he mailed the money out and he said he did. On Friday April 2nd I e-mailed him again to get his address and to ask again without being too pushy to verify that the money order was mailed. Again he said it was. I e-mailed him again on saturday the 3rd and again today, I have not received a response to either of these two E-mails. It has now been a week since he said he mailed the money order and I still do not have it. I live in the Minneapolis area and he live in Chicago which is only about 400 miles away. I expected to receive the money in 3-4 days.

Am I too impatient and should I wait a little longer or should I consider that he backed out of the sale and just does not want to tell me. I would really like to sell the knife as soon as possible (I have a Glock 19 on layaway just waiting for this knife to sell).

I have heard stories about the post office being really slow and losing mail sometimes. Maybe this is what has happened.

I recently had a payment to me literally take over three weeks, I would give it a t least a full week,
 
When I send money orders, I confirm by emailing the recipient a scan of the MO or the MO receipt. When I send knives, I usually email a scan of the DC, Insurance receipt, or whatever as proof that it was mailed. I think it helps.
 
....I have been amazed at how slow the mail can be sometimes. Even 'priority' packages that cost more than regular post can take waaay longer than they should.

The buyer should be able to provide you with a MO #, from his part of the receipt....you probably can't track it with that, but at least it is proof of existence.

I still have not received the money order but he paid me by paypal today so I am still happy. I guess I just needed a little more patience. Thanks for all of the replies.
