Knives aren't terribly complicated devices. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect it to work as intended the moment you unpack it. Even so, when there is a problem, you should have reasonable expectations as to how quickly it can be addressed. The OP has every right to be disappointed, but it's unlikely that anyone's life or livelihood is on the line here.
