How long would the team gemini LB be available for?

Hi this may sound like a silly question but I'm torn between getting a pair of camping boots while its on sale or Busse TGLB (they're about the same price)... Would anyone be able to shed some light on how long the TGLB would be available on their website please? If there is any sign of it becoming discontinued any time soon then I'll probably get the knife.

Also does anyone know what the grip material they use for the display photo? I'm guessing its a black G10 but just thought I should make sure.

Thanks in advance. :)

To answer your question, only one person knows. That's the Man Jerry himself !!!! But when a knife is about to be discontinued Busse Combat will ( maybe/possibly ) post in advance that it is coming down off web page. Then the scramble is on to order quickly before they disappear :eek::)
Good luck with your decision :)

I've wondered the same thing. While I don't have a guess as to whether they will discontinue it anytime soon...I will say that, given that it's featured prominently on the Walking Dead as Daryl Dixon's knife of choice, I'm sure it's a huge money maker for Jerry. :D

I'm going to guess the combo pictured on the site is desert sage and black paper micarta scales, but it could be G-10.

Personally, I spent the extra $$ and went with black G-10. I have a few Busses with black paper and almost all of them have what look like scuff marks, especially my AMS LE that has been in/out of a leather sheath.  Maybe those marks are normal, but it really ruins the look of the scales for me.

I'd go for the boots on sale, I don't see it going anywhere in the near future. The Walking Dead has made the TGLB the most iconic film knife since the Rambo knife, so yeah it's pretty popular at this point….. :)

Ha! Jerry doesn't even know. One day he will either sober up or get even drunker, and then decide to change it up. No one knows when that day will come.

Red Angel Dragnet has a good point. I'd go for the boots on sale myself. Nothing worse than cold feet ! I hate that !

Thanks for the reply guys :)

and more dilemma! I'm going to go zen like a Tibetan monk on this one.

BTW does the uncoated version of the TGLB have a 90 degree spine? I kind of need that when starting a campfire using a ferro rod.

Thanks for your help again guys!

Spine is rounded on the TGLB and almost 90* on the blade show variant. Regardless of the spine you can square the choil and use that for your fire steel.
I believe Busse does not produce uncoated TGLB, those can be found at blade shows and in the following Ganzas or the exchange only.

If you are referring to the Satin Team Gemini's from Blade Show 14'/Ganza, they are not technically 90 degrees in the sense that the sharp corner has been knocked off by way of a machinist's edge break. It likely won't do very well to throw sparks, as in order to do that it would equal a knife with comfort issues in actual usage.

And there are many available on the secondary market...;-)

Shoot Bro you might look into one of the newer BIG knives. The edges on those should work fine as I know for a fact my AMS-BIG will strike a spark!!! :D That is if your looking for a spark chucker. The 2014 Blade TGs and the TGLB would require you flattening a place to get that 90' edge.

So first there was the Team Gemini, then there was the Light Brigade version of the Team Gemini, commonly known as the TGLB. The TGLB is coated (you used to be able to call and request "Competition Finish", a rough-but-uncoated finish, as sort of a secret menu upgrade, not sure that's still possible), it has a fuller and a milled-out tang under the handle, and the "Nuclear Meltdown" edge-rounding treatment on all the exposed edges of the blade other than the actual sharpened edge. These changes add up to about 5oz less weight.

The most recent non-LB Team Gemini knives, the "Blade 2014 Ganzaa" ones, are satin finished, without the fuller, and have edges that are chamfered just enough so that they don't hurt (I've attached a bad pic to try to show the edge). Also, the "Ganzaa" TG's are really sweet knives.

Also, the best/only way to know for sure when the TGLB will get withdrawn from regular offering would be to show up at Jerry's house with a wheelbarrow full of really good booze and persuade him to decide. I don't think they really know yet. But even after it gets withdrawn from regular production, there will be a bunch on the secondary market.

Thanks for your help again everyone :) Looks like the only way is to ask the man himself so I'll send him an email via website.

I didn't know the non-LB version was still available. I might ask them if I can buy that. Thanks for the photo looking at that I think the edge is sharp enough to strike fire.

Thanks again I'm so glad I asked here :)

"Available" is a relative term. Only the TGLB can be ordered direct from Busse's website at this point.

That "non-LB" Team Gemini was only available direct at the Blade 2014 show, and online during a corresponding "Ganzaa" (online sales that come up from time to time, more like a cross between a sporting event and feeding frenzy, where your otherwise friendly fellow forum members will try to distract and trip you on the way to the finish line, to get their order in ahead of you, for the limited number of knives available). Anyway, the Blade 2014 variant of the TG was only available direct from Busse in/during those limited circumstances, but often comes up on the secondary market - the one in that pic I got a few weeks ago from a fellow forum member, and there have been a few in the Busse For Sale forum in the last few days. Now, of course, you can probably order one from the Custom Shop, but there's usually a long wait involved.

Depends on the number of blanks cut. But that's of course a secret :)

A secret you say?

*places a bottle of scotch in front of Garth*

Garth?

Joke aside if the non-LB version is not available I'm wondering if Busse can do the competition finish and mill about an inch of the spine on the LB version so I could have the 90 degree edge but is this possible?

If you're allowed to tell me please let me know

Thanks :)
