How long would the team gemini LB be available for?

A secret you say?

Garth?

Joke aside if the non-LB version is not available I'm wondering if Busse can do the competition finish and mill about an inch of the spine on the LB version so I could have the 90 degree edge but is this possible?

If you're allowed to tell me please let me know

Thanks :)

You are on the right track, but use Cabo Wabo Tequila.

Best suggestion is to call or email Garth. The Shop does not generally answer those sort of questions here.

On the Busse Knife Co. website you can find a link to the custom shop where you can post a question about a custom treatment to a blade blank....perhaps a ground area in front of
the top guard that resembles a "Harpoon" treatment??? I have personally taken my dremel with a burr and removed coating from the choil area and created a crisp edge for striking
a spark.....Garth will certainly answer any of your question.... Good luck

If you went full custom shop, you could not only do a striker edge somewhere on the spine, but also have them put on thicker scales, and maybe skip the rear most of the two "dips" on each side, then drill holes in from the butt end of each scale (carefully missing the bolt/tube holes) and put a ferrocerium rod in one and a magnesium rod in the other. Have all the fire bits with you all the time :)

Nooo!! They just told me that the only finish available are the ones on the website... If I go custom that will be 100USD per inch...

Looks like the boots this time around...

I really like the look of the grip of the TG so I probably will start going back to church in hopes that they will release a competition finish one soon. My first Busse is still at large... I will get it one day though!

Well, you've stumbled onto a little known fact - most of the Busse operation these days revolves around The Walking Dead - it's getting lots of non-knife people to seek out Busse TGLB's (and, really, once they found one of the Walking Dead drinking games, the whole shop became huge fans - they've been known to play 3 or 4 different Walking Dead drinking games simultaneously), but those customers not wise to the ways of Busse knives were buying the Competition Finish because that's what they saw on the show, but then complaining because they didn't understand the lovely rough nature of comp finish. This is actually why Jerry developed the Busse Industrial Grade finish, to lessen return rates on Daryl Knives, as they call them around the office.

So I expect there's a decent chance that we'll be seeing a B.I.G. TGLB somewhere down the road.

Ah that makes a lot of sense! Let's hope that Busse members on this forum would hear my cry for competition finish knives! (Hint hint). May be I should leave a trail of booze like bread crumbs with a big picture of TG/TGLB in competition finish and see where that takes us.

For the sake of my education is there any particular reason why competition finishes are rough? Is it to reduce suction when slicing through game meat?

And I've started watching that show since taking interest in TGLB. Its a bloody good show!

In a word, cost. The blades come out of the heat treat with dimples, machining marks, etc. All of which require additional labor (cost) to grind down the surface to a smooth finish. Which, in turn gets passed on to the consumer in an expensive finish.

When I asked about completion finish on a Butaniku I was ordering, I was told it was no longer being offered, even as a special order.

Ah blast... and its a shame about the returning. Only if they knew... Looking a bit roughed up looks just fine in my eyes. Its what on the inside that counts right? :P

Having said that all the competition finish I have seen seems to look pretty pristine.

I have a TGLB with the competition finish and black/tan G10, and I think it looks pretty darned good.

That's because you, sir, are a man of taste and understanding. And you know what competition finish entails. Unfortunately, in the past, there was no test to ensure that someone possessed taste and understanding before being allowed to order a Busse with competition finish, and I guess that that caused some problems.
