How man times have you been cut?

Only once so far, since I just got my BM42 today.

I had the foresight to buy two boxes of bandages on the way home. I was taking a forumite's advice and practicing with both hands, and luckily(?) the cut is on my left middle finger knuckle, so I can still practice with my right.

P.S. - Hi, I'm new (but I've been lurking for a few weeks).

ahhhhhhh i just bought one today, and i havn't been able to put it down since i came home with it. i have already been cut like 8 times, and my hand is killing me, but i love it!!! my handles are loosening up tho, like they can move perpindicular to the blade alittle , is this normal?

I too, have of course, totally lost track of the number of cuts I've received.

My worst injury is one that's still healing right now, I was doing the 2 handed thing a couple of days ago, and I full on stabbed myself in the right hand pinky - on the top almost exactly in the middle... it's down to the bone, but I was manipulating again within 30 minutes.

ouch that hurt - some play is normal. Theres some tips on www.balisongxtreme.com about tightening, so you may want to check it out.

my worst cut was probably around january. I was laying down flipping my very new BM42. I was going through my regular routine, when I came to a finger roll-over. Now I'm not quite sure how it happened, but I managed to slice off a good portion of my middle finger knuckle. It didn't bleed for like, 20 seconds, then it bled like a mother for about 2 hours. fortunantly, it didn't hurt. Hell, I didn't even notice it until I saw the flap of skin hanging there.

My second worst (and the one I'm most afraid of a re-occurance) was when I was watching Face/Off. I VERY quickly did a windmill, and basically the bite handle moved away a little but the blade stayed in place. My thumb slid onto it and OW! that one sucked too

Worst injury ever? I tossed a locked-closed bali in the air that was twisting like a blur and missed with my receiving hand. It drilled itself into the top of my bare foot and I screwed up a nerve. It only went in about a ½", but it was twisting when it did. I limped for days and still have the scar to prove it ("It" being my clumsiness

).

How about the oddest place you've been cut? For me, its the back of my neck. *Tip* Leave over-the-shoulder aerials to the professionals.

I've never had any *really* bad cuts (that I can remember) from doing manipulations. All the cuts I've gotten over the years have been mild ones.

I've also never had any in odd places.Which is kinda surprising considering some of the stuff I used to attempt back in the old days.

I wonder if anyone here have ever been cut ***in a knife fight***?

Personally, I've been pretty into knives for 25 years or so, but there's only one time I ever got into a confrontation that involved a knife.
I caught some kids that were going around stealing car stereos, after I noticed

that mine was gone.
I chased them down, and had a United 6" tanto fixedblade sideways along my belt.
I pulled it and followed the guy with the backpack. When I caught him, he started crying that he and his friends were drunk....

I hit him with the hand wielding the knife, right in the nose, but I refrained from cutting him.
I retreived my stereo and let him go.
on my way back to the car, his friends and him came back wielding a baseball bat.
Me and two other friends took that away from them, and contained them until police arrived.
They were unconcerned that I had a knife.
This was back in 1990 or so.

But I have never been in a real knife fight, but I wonder if anyone here has.

I'm really not trying to promote violence, but I'm not a pacifist either.

Never seriously. Been nicked and poked about 6 times each.

I don't Toss & Catch, so...I don't have much of a problem.

A Lansky Sharpening System, you remember the Game "Mousetrap" from the 70s and 80s? Well, that's sort of what a Lansky Sharpening System is. That sent me to the Hospital one night in rural Virginia as I could see finger BONE.

So, my record is, I've been swabbed out at the hospital twice [one stab, one cut] for knife encounters, one I treated at home. And once with a Sharpening System which was treated at the hospital...those that ended up in the hospital were not life-threatening, but you could get a Gemini with those three visits.

I have come to the conclusion that other people and Sharpening Systems are more dangerous than I am when it comes to hurting me.

Usual Suspect Some of my Knives and other neat things

My only piece of advice to you guys is this.

If someone wants to hurt you and they have steel, try to get out if you can.

If you have to live in an environment like that, I won't be an absolute dick and look down on you and tell you, "You should move to a nicer area." I know that sort of attitude is rampant on Internet Forums.

I can tell you this, however, if you want to learn how to defend against a knife, please get involved in a Filipino Martial Art. All of the concepts are much more viable because those arts deal with knives and sticks all the time.

I had a first degree black belt in JuJutsu and I switched to Tang Soo Do and had been in that about 6 months when I got stabbed in the forearm. If I knew then what I know now, that might not have happened.

Even for non life-threatening stab and slash wounds, it is not pleasant to get them repaired. Unless your idea of fun is having a huge, wood-stick Q-Tip drenched in Batadine being pushed through that wound, that is hours later...hurting more than when it happened...and then having about 3 shots of local IN the bastard...well...get out if you can. Even in the arm it hurt like hell, worse than the knife did.

If you can legally carry a knife, and you do for self-defense, learn how to use it. And if you can, carry an ASP Baton and learn how to use it as well.
