How many "Becker Bites"

How many of you guys cut yourselves with your Beckers? I nicked my thumb the other day with my full sized USMC knife and felt pretty dumb about that. Now , after reading some recent posts about guys going to the ER after sticking knives in their legs etc, I got curious.

Lets hear about YOUR "Becker bites"

Just to make you Klutzes fell better. Here is a video clip from the now famous "Virtouvice" on Youtube. At 5:30 on the video his Fallkniven F1 bites his left hand hard when notching a frozen log. Lucky he is a trained surgeon. He operates on HIMSELF..

Even when he's bleeding profusely, "Virtouvice" is a studious dude..

Once, got the tip of my finger to the bone with my BK7.

needed stitches but it was such a thin cut I just taped it up......good to go

Luckily, most of mine were little "love bites", nothing too serious. I have had many, many, MANY of these little dings and such that show off my impressive command of the english language, particularly profinity. They tend to happen very often. May be that fact I always have a knife in my hand. Nothing like a BK-7....but I fiddle around with my stockman or SAK constantly and obsessively sharpen my collection.

I did knock a Marine Raider bowie from Ontario Knife Company off of a table and into the top of my foot. FYI, Chuck Taylors will not stop that knife (very pointy tip!!!)from going through the top of your foot. Luckily the bones in my foot did stop the blade from doing any serious damage. Bleed like a stuck pig for a few, but I slowed it and superglued it shut. Later that night (after about 3 hours in the car), it was sore as hell.......and it hurt like hell when trying to put weight on it. If I poked around the wound it sent a pain spike to my toes, so I figured I should do to the ER. Got x-rays and no damage from the blade.....but the doc did find old fractures I didnt know about in my foot (military and I used to walk far, carrying a lot of weight), and complimented me on my super glue skills...and told me that it wasnt a good idea to do that (but hey........I dont have a stash of derma-bond).

Despite all these little wounds, I feel my knife collection has always suffered worse than I. I have broken or lost more knives than I care to admit (particularly Spydercos...I've had one stolen, lost another, and let two friends borrow my knives that they left (on a vehicle during air assult missions). To this day I still haven't bought any more Spydercos.

All of my many stitches have been from dog bites three different times and a shovel once

that was a BK9 bite

That was a BK7

I nicked my thumb today while doing a wrap on the handle of my BK11. It was kind of deep but I superglued it and it's good as new. Idk what it was about today but it seems like all the knives fought back. :D

Damn, Airyca. You got both hands, huh?

Don't think I've ever cut myself with a Becker. Plenty of others, mostly balisongs.

I cut my finger down to the bone on my first BK11.

I was drawing it out with my left hand and had the sheath in my right. My right finger slipped and went to the top of the sheath, then out came the blade. Didn't get stitches, which wasn't a smart move. Just alcohol, superglue, band-aid, and whiskey. I don't have any numbness but I can feel it hurting when I read these threads.

I have had many but nothing hurt like when I cut under my thumb nail! Nails don't stay on long after that by the way lol

Only two memorable cuts were with a Busse FBM (knuckle) and with a Dozer (fingertip). No Becker wounds to speak of.

Lucky with the Beckers. The worst one was a Mora SL2. I was wrapping the handle with hockey stick tape, because I thought that slick handle was dangerous (ha!). As I was wrapping it slipped and went across my index and middle fingers like a laser beam. I SHOULD have stitched those...but tape and super glue instead. Remember....not just any super glue! Keep some Krazy Glue with the brush applicator in all your med kits!

I was trying to pry a missed security tag off of a gift someone got for my son with my full size USMC and slipped....

Severed a nerve that had to be repaired by plastic surgeon..
Here is a pic of the offender and some siblings...

Here is the scar the other day with the newest sib...Still numb but I think it's getting better..

Several years ago I was clearing away a shrub at my grandmothers house with a Woodsman's Pal and on a back swing (I was using it one handed ) caught the top of my head with the hook on the back... That needed 7 stitches. No pics of the wound from when it happened. Next hair cut, I will get a pic of the scar..

This should be a poll like threat. So we can see what BK likes to bite there owner most! :)

My BK7 that gave me the need for 3 stitches.

Here's the 'izula bite' I got a while back while wrapping a BK14. Tape the blade, dumb-butt. Tape the blade.

Still don't have any feeling in most of that thumb. Oh well.

i have a lot of nicks, and some that might have qualified for stitches, but "i fixed them myself"

to this date, knocking on wood, not broken a bone (that i know of), or had stitches from an accident - did have 3 in my mouth from large cuts - surgery - my only such event. i took pictures.

butterfly bandages, super glue, and a completely lack of being squeamish has served well so far.

suppose i should buy a couple suture kits, and learn to reconnect freshly cut up chicken?

the v'vice video taught me a lot :> number 1 : do not, ever, pull the knife towards you... show your kids.

i'm a spaz, and treat edged tools carefully. gloves are good. leather at least, none of that cloth stuff ;) even so, my gripping hand has a lot of little marks.

even got away with a fairly clean cut on my big toe from stepping on a knife i'd left out (idiot). healed well.

stay safe people, don't cut shit when tired, learn to stop. esp with things that can deflect. go over to the himalayan import section and read the safety thread, a lot of that WILL apply to the Machax... http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...t-and-Greatest-Safety-Thread-REQUIRED-READING! i DO NOT want to hear about people getting frakked up learning a new tools.

cutting is not self love :D

It had been over 10 years since I've cut myself seriously. With almost daily use of knives. I was a little complacent while sanding my bk9. Ended up with this little reminder. The 9 was so sharp i didn't even feel it till blood started pouring out. XCut to the bone with minimal pressure.

lesson learned.
