Benchmade How many Benchmade knives does a man NEED? I have three now, scaling down from five.

I can only carry one or two if I count my "Go bag". I am hooked on things made well and I find Benchmade to be in that category. Perhaps we need a loaner program, rent for 30 days with a security deposit. Interested in your comments.

NEED?

I guess the answer is none...

Many companies offer same or better quality for the same price.

I've only got one (940-1) and I feel that's all I want; not need.

Well...

Maybe a Bedlam someday.

The answers to your question will range from “none” to “there’s no such thing as too many,” with equally spirited feelings at both ends of the spectrum.

Don't own a single one. Used to. But four or five years ago when QC dropped, price gouging started, I sold the few I had. I've considered going back, but I've seen no improvement in QC and I'm not real happy with whom they support politically--seems counter intuitive to what Doug Ritter has been trying to do with knife rights. I'm guessing that's why they stopped producing his designs, as well as dropping HK.

I only have two Benchmades, one balisong trainer and their Puukko. I have owned probably close to 40 and they never seemed to stick around for very long. Benchmade makes decent knives, buy as many as your budget allows whether you need them or not.

I've bought, sold and owed about 20. Down to just the Bugout now. It's a perfect lightweight shorts carry knife for me. Great for hiking. That being said, just bought a Spyderco Native Salt so the Bugout might get displaced for hiking.

It is not the "need" that drives us.

It is the "want".

How many Benchmades do you "want"? Is the question you should be asking.

The Bladeforums approved answer is "all of them".

(Personally though, I've stopped buying Benchmades since they instituted MAP. I would consider a Hogue/Ritter, but it's above my self-imposed price point.)

I only own two Benchmade knives and yes, I think they are well made overall. Not cheap. I try to look at other brands rather than just sticking to one manufacturer. That said, I really like the Mini Presidio II and it is my chosen 2nd knife if I carry two these days. Generally speaking I have been trying to reduce the size of my regular carry knives.

Not sure what your price max is, but Hogue is making HK knives in CPM-154 with the axis (pivot they call it) lock. I think like $125 ish. I'm tempted to try either that or the Ritter.

I stopped buying Benchmade and sold mine because of the map debacle.

I have a few spydies zt but to me they dont compare... There really something special in a way a benchmade operates.. The way the blade looses balance and falls when disengading the lock.. Started with 940, added adamas contego stryker & proper, have a mini presido2 on its way and got plans for more.. But at the same time I`d WANT to go back and have only ONE good BM knife and just use it and pass it to grandchildren...
