Benchmade How many Benchmade knives does a man NEED? I have three now, scaling down from five.

I ended up selling my Benchmades to buy a Small Sebenza, never once regretted it. They just cost too much for what you get, in my opinion. I'm not saying they're bad knives. They're great for the average guy, just not good value for an enthusiast.

Just my .02

MAP--Minimum Advertised Price. They raised and enforced it out the wazoo.

I have 4 right now and will carry and use them but I will never buy another one. There quality control has gone to crap and I won't support a company who takes our money and supports the liberal left. Too many better USA made knives for the same money.

Very interesting input ?and I thank all of you. I keep hearing "map", what does that mean?

To add to what KOD said.

Benchmade decides how much each model should cost, and tells retailers how much that is. If you want to maintain your status as a Benchmade dealer, you need to charge at least that much. If you get caught selling Benchmade knives for less than the minimum advertised price, they won't ship you any more knvies.

While browsing knife pics my eye always stops on bms. Their design language just speaks to me. Has nothing to do with price value or qc. To me their design equals knife as it should be, not a glamourous flashy toy. But that's a personal thing I suppose.

It really depends. IMO you need a 710, 940, and griptilian or any variants of them. So, the answer is 3. Someone suggested spyderco, but I feel none of the spydercos can replace these Benchmades.

Hmmm. My understanding of MAP is that you can sell it for whatever price you want as long as you don't advertise it lower than the MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) they set. Since the MAP is 15% lower than the MSRP, most dealers sell at the MAP. But I've walked into stores that don't advertise and gotten 20% off MSRP.

Wouldn't be the first time that I was wrong on the Internet!

That sure would be less annoying. I still think their knives are overpriced, but your way is at least more ethical.

The only problem is that you don't know who those guys are because they can't advertise! I was surprised (but pleased). I only went to that store because I was in the vicinity -- it's hours away from me -- and my local dealer went out of business.

I don't "need" any Benchmade knife.
There are plenty of alternatives available from other manufacturers that will perform just as well at a much more reasonable cost (IMHO, and based upon my budget.)
I don't need to "impress" anyone with the brand names of my gear.

A lot of love for the Bugout here. Haven't tried but seems warranted with aftermarket CF or Ti scales. I was never a fan of the axis lock and springs to be honest but did find the most love for the Skirmish, the Nakamura CF, and the Pardue 530-something gold class. Like many others, they eventually found their way onto the market place and new homes. However just recently acquired an AFO II and the quality and design blew me away. So much so that it kinda renewed a love in Benchmade and gotta have a Stimulus one day soon. Is it a need? No, but hell yeah very strong want. :)

Couple 940’s which have a super low pocket profile and weight to blade ratio is why I carry them a lot. Bought a new 908-1501 it’s really growing on fast and may order another one since they are a exclusive model could be gone soon. Have a bug out I like too.

Overall, U.S.A. made blades which is important to me personally that’s all I buy when given a choice ( company I worked for moved overseas many years back to get out of paying employee benefits).

let’s see, um, 477-1,... 9555,.. 490,..... 698,.... 810,.... 140,.. 320,.....um, 580,... 940,...... 890,.... ummmmm, nope. still don’t have enough.

I've had about four. I liked the 275 fixed blade a lot; had a couple.
I've carried several BM folders for several yrs a long time ago. Was enuf for me.
I have one folder that my son bought for me. Too bad. I can't sell it or throw it away.

I don't own any Benchmades any more but maybe I'll buy one because "they support the liberal left" :D

I like AFO's but beyond that the really don't make anything that's not politics that better than anything else I own.

Yes this is how MAP pricing is used in my industry.
