how many BF Natives...

No regrets here. We tried this as an experiment. Next time, we'll redesign the experiment...with greater knowledge.

*counting pennies..*

FWIW, I'll own one of these one day, it's just coming up with the money ($CDN..grr..) I'd hate to see the surplus put a damper on future offerings from the forum. You guys sell some great stuff.

Sal,

I'm glad you don't regret the experience. I greatly hope that this won't be the last knife that you guys alter slightly to bring it to meet our greatly exaggerated desires

Seriously, I think the worst thing to take from this would be that it's impossible to move these special knives that are designed for us. The Sifu should be an example of that.

I wasn't here for the discussions about the native, or the price miscalculation. That's probably a good thing, because I might not have bought the knife then and knowing what I know now, that would have been a mistake.

Anyhow, I hope that those involved in the business side of these productions do indeed learn from the experiments already done, and will continue to bring these knives to us, hopefully from these and other manufacturers. The time between new knives is something that might be altered - ie. maybe more natives would be ordered currently if the Sifu wasn't available for order - but that is also something that can be learned.

Oh, and I'm glad to see that there are indeed people now ordering the native...good choice, guys

Just my $0.02

tulsamal: Thanks for the info on the edge-type.

Ewok: Thanks for locating the threads...very interesting reading for those into doing post-mortems.

Besides expectations (of a lower price), maybe another factor in the surplus would be the pricing level for an impulse buy. A $100 knife, while still an unquestionably good buy, is not the discretionary cash in the same sense that $50 is...particularly when the buying audience are bottom-feeders accustomed to shopping for low prices.

Anyway, thanks for the background and info. My last knife order is still "in transit", and my wallet tells me I have to at least wait for that to arrive before I can order more. But I know that a BF Native has my name on it already.

Hey, I resemble... er... resent ... that remark!

But, really, quite true, IMO.

Unfortunately for my savings account, anything less than the price of a case of ammo is considered eligible for an impulse buy.

I just order a BF Native (plain edge, no sheath) So why do I still feel like a "bottom-feeder"?

Seriously, if I can risk domestic bliss on yet ANOTHER knife (and a kick-a$$ one at that), so can a few more of us.

At the risk of sounding like an NPR fund raiser, I know I use this forum every day of the week. I`ve learned more about knives in the short time I`ve been a member than I had in the years preceeding. And I`ve been able to hear late breaking knife news straight from the leaders of the industry.

And what has it cost me...?? $0.00 nada!

If Spark asked us to pony up some cash to help keep this forum afloat, I`d most likely do it. If he was going to give me a kick-a$$ knife as a token of his appreciation, I`d definately do it!

For my hundred bucks, I get a 440v Native, AND the best knife forum on the internet. It`s a win-win situation.

My $0.02

Nicely put, Steve. Couldn't agree with you more.

I just recently got my BF Native (Thanks for checking it for me before shipping it, Spark!) and it's really GREAT! I have no complaints whatsoever. In fact, I'm just recovering a bit and will be getting a few more. We can call it early Christmas shopping.
smile.gif
Of course, I plan to get a second one for myself, as this one's too nice to be used. It'll stay with the others on the display rack.

Dan

PS. Get the sheath too, if you can. It's also a great item to compliment the BF Native.

I know this is an old topic.. but I had to add my take on it all. I havent been around long so I too, was not part of the formulting process. However, I did order the BF Native, for several reasons. The first and most obvious, I thought the BF Native was sharp looking (and made with top of the line materials). Second would be, to support the forum. Steve B stated reasoning on this quite nicely and I agree whole heartedly with him. I was sorry to stumble onto the threads about how the BF Natives were selling slowly. I received mine today... and have talked about NOTHING but the knife since. I am sure my roommate is quite sick of my knife talk by now. The knife is top of the line and well worth the 100 bucks I put out for it. I do not regret my purchase for a second. For all of you who have not purchased one, do not hesitate.. grab this one now. You will get a super knife, plus you will be supporting something that I know you all enjoy or you would not be here.... the forum.

p.s. the sheath is excellent also.. grab one if you can.. great compliment to the BF Native!

HEY FENCE SITTERS!!!!

You know who you are...

I just bought my second because I wanted one to carry and one for my son when he's old enough to appreciate it. Thanks for not buying them up right away so I could get seconds. I love this little blade. Dynamite daily carry.

Christopher

I just received my Native today. It is my first Spyderco of many. I totally agree with Steve B.. I never realized how good the products from Spyderco were until everybody shared their knowledge and experience. This all cost me $0.00 and it was impartial information from our peers. I am impressed that a company redesigned and re-tooled a product for such a small production run at the price that they offered. Anyway it is a good thing that we have some fence sitters, not too many I hope, that way some of us can get another one later. No, I do not own stock in Spyderco. I just like the idea that we can have something that not too many other people can have. I'll be looking for them blue Natives all the time now.

well, i have it. (right here actually)

i ordered the knife for a lot of reasons, really liking the native patern was not at the top. well nuts,it is now.

i had to sit down with this piece and think about my ACTUAL knife use patterns.

i soon found this little knife to have superb egronomics, fitting not only my scrawny hands, but the work i do with them.

..but the blades a little short, i complained. well, for my everyday use ((literly every day) on bags, boxes, small line, and poly tubing of various sizes, etc...) this is plenty of blade.

for a while i found myself wanting nearly the biggest folder i could stuff in my pocket, but for an actual knife to USE, around others especially, the medium size seems to fit.

anyway...

point is im glad i got off the fence and got this knife. im more than pleased with the quality of the product, and as i said, i was plesantly supprised to my new fondness for the pattern.

if you are on the fence like i was on this one, get it. you dont really need more of my opinion, i guess i voted with my $100 so you know where i stand. but i recomend you do the same. lets sell these things out so we can dream up something even better.

id sure like a carbon fiber/cpm 440v (dare i ask for talonite?) knife. something with a nice belly to it, made to cut. sebenza pattern if you need a visual, but not exactly. actually a larger native (not a mega, maby 3.75" edge)in cf with a drop point exotic blade might be fun.

anyway...

thats about my 2.95 worth.

buy a blue native. i like mine.

This thread reminds me of when Sally Field won her Oscar some years ago and said, " You like me, you really like me".

Glad to see you guys happy with the Blue Native, I carry mine every day and wish I could spare the change to get another.
