How Many Carry and Use Your Customs?

I carry something that looks like this:

Why bother keeping things you will never use??? (As some people have found out recently-not all knives are made to be used...) This one is!

I like most when I got my first customs did not want to scratch or hurt them, but after talking to most of the custom knifemakers I have bought from they said basicly they are tools made to be used. It changed my whole outlook, and since then carry, and use any customs I buy. If they are to too pretty to use then I don't buy them. Besides I want to enjoy all the fantastic steels, alloy blades that are in the knives I buy. Pay good money for those knives, might as well enjoy them. I am not a collector in the sense of the word as for reselling. I figger what they are worth after I am gone is immaterial, and does me no good anyway.
I use them but don't abuse them. I like most carry more than one knife, some for hard use, lending to someone else to use, but my customs for light use, and NO-ONE handles my customs. If they did not buy them they will not be careful enough to not abuse them, drop them, or scratch, bend, pry, etc.
I say use them, and appreciate them for the high quality of workmanship they are built from.

Sorry this is so long, but you asked!!

Just my .02 cents rounded off to a buck.

I carry and use them all or I don't want them in my collection.

If I find one I would never carry I don't buy it and likewise if I have one I never carry I usually will start carrying it or sell it..

I have a mixed view (should that be mixed up?), my edc is an Emerson CQC6 and I also have a Brend Fixed blade that I use. The majority of my collection have been purchased as a collection.

Regards,

Ed

I Plan on it. I only have four so far. three are planned to be used and one will either be traded for something to use, or be returned to be to used. What Else are they good for?
If they are worth the money spent, they WILL remain in great shape to pass on to my Two sons and one Daughter (she loves MOP, just DO NOT make Diamond handles:eek:  )
Knives just look silly sitting in my glass case. It's JUST that first scratch that I HAVE to get over:( :D ;) .............wolf

Bladezealot,
That's about how I feel about the Chimera, although I could see being that way about the TnT too <g> - The Chimera is just a bit "dressier". The only reason for the Jeff Hall is when I want a REALLY dressy knife that is smaller than the Chimera - a Suit knife, if you will

I carry and use a Terzuola ATCF everyday. It is my "using" knife. I will also carry a Carson ModelM16 when I am not carrying the ATCF. But, I have several other knives that are for collection that I will probably not see a good work out in the forseeable future.

Of course I carry and use them!
But what I carry and use depends on what I'm doing. I keep my knives in a drawer in my dressing/grooming area. If it is a suit-and-tie day I slip something slim, sharp, and dressy into my pocket. small Jeff Hall folder, Gene Osborn Centercross scale release, or my Broadwell Springbok. Jeans-n-boots go with maybe a Larry Chew mini-spitfire or a small Madpoet fixed blade. Today its bluejeans and my Centercross lockback in the Gary Graley belt sheath. One of my favorite combinations.

All depends...

My dress folder is my Sawby. For fixed, I'm usually carrying either my DDR Arclite ALB or JSP Jashido Compact. In the woods, my Madpoet/Broadwell camp knife.

For general knocking around, though, I carry one of my Spyders, maybe my Kershaw Boa.

Hi Dwight,

Give " 'Nita " and her family my best for the holidays. What a wonderful person! I have flipped her out a few years ago when I was dealing heading to a show after work. In those days I drove 500.00 dollar cars filled with 20k worth of knives. :D Rest easy many of those were factory and the heard as dwindled to a small flock :D.

Hum, if I remember correctly (and I do) she even had me order a few knives for her at one point or another. Tell her those puppies are selling for a little over twice what she paid now :).

WOW!!! SammyB.... what a beautiful knife. How about some details on this gorgeous piece?

I carry mine, thats why I bought them!

I used to have a bunch of knives but I gave away, traded, or sold those I did not use.

A Tom Mayo TNT is my EDC

There are still a few I have not used, but that is a function of not having enough free time!!!!

1. Carry and use custom neck knives regularly.

2. Carry and use custom folders occasionally.

3. Normally have a high end factory folder to back up number 1.

4. Many of the higher end customs (fixed/folder arty types) don't get used at all.

I must admit that I don't use all of them but I do use a lot of them! I carry a custom folder about everyday and use several fixed blades off and on. Anytime I check out getting a knife I try to find one I would want to use first, other considerations come after that.

When you buy fine pieces crafted by the best, just what sense does it make NOT carrying and using them? Did the maker invest his or her blood, sweat and tears into a creation that will only gather dust and/or the grimaces of an owner terrified of that first scratch?

My carry knives today are a CQC6, a large TNT, and a Ray Cover slip-joint. Used them all... And okay, I'm always afraid of that first scatch myself.
