Never had an issue with detent or centering on any of mine though I'm not afraid to take a knife apart and make it work like I want. Detents can be tuned, take a little time and don't go crazy. I've found the detents often too strong vs too weak, for me anyway.
Only way to get a Hinderer is to just get one, you can vaccilate forever, read a lot of misinfo and talk yourself up and down. Some people just don't like them, like I'm not a real big Reeve's fan (still have them though). Personally I'm on the wagon but maybe they aren't for everyone. They aren't 'pretty', not real blingy IMO but can be made to be, they are a bit expensive but relative to other knives it's pretty obvious you're getting your $$'s worth if your into heavy users and quality construction. I have a lot of knives that didn't live up to the hype, get all excited and then let down when it's in hand. I just picked up a Socom Elite manual yesterday and for me it doesn't live up to the hype so far. The detent is really weak, I can shake it out easy, which is the opposite of what I saw in the 'reviews', steel is Elmax and the lock-stick is pretty severe. Am I dissapointed? Not really, I've bought enough stuff to know that opinions are just that, someone else's take on a 'thing'. Overall I'm pretty happy with it.
Nothings perfect really, there's always going to be something that works for someone else but not for you. Like I tell my wife and kids, have realistic expectations and you'll be far less dissapointed in life.
