How many knives did you make before selling

fascinating thread.

I should clarify what I mean by 'sell': post publicly for sale for a market appropriate price, given materials, workmanship, and reputation, (rather than just materials costs), and willing to mail it to a stranger and have it talked about online outside of my own posts.

I felt really good about selling my knives until I went to the Little Rock Custom Knife Show and felt how light and balanced all of the knives are by the top makers. That's what I'm striving for now, performance and balance. Too many knives feel butt heavy and unbalanced in my opinion.

This is a great thread. I made about 6 knives 30/35 years ago, became a special order goldsmith for my career, and now, newly retired, knives have become my passion. And, after 25 years of special orders...I will NEVER take a special order for a knife or design one with a "sale" in mind. The knives I make are going to be just for fun...the first signed knife goes to my grandson (as soon as I get done using it :) ).
