How many knives do you build a year?

I've been retired for 15 years this month. :D Just make knives as a hobby. Give the them away to family and friends. Never make the same knife twice.

Last year I made 6 knives. I haven't made a knife this year although I have a couple planned. Been busy coyote hunting and getting a shoulder fixed this last winter. It's getting close to fishing weather now. After it gets too hot for that I'll make a few knives.

I try to do about 3 a month. This includes re-handle jobs. I sharpen or fix nicked blades about 12 times a month.

Back in the early/mid 90s', 300+ a year. I finished 8 hunters in one day, from blanking, grinding, HTing, handles to finish.

Now I make less than 40 a year but a very different kind of knife :)

I get about 20-25 done a yr. Being retired you would think I would get more done , but I am lazy and spend about 3-4 hrs. a day in the shop depending on the weather .

I like to do batches my way. I grind 5 to 6 of a pattern and heat treat. I may only finish two out of those then 2 of a different pattern. 5 to 6 at a time is the most I will work on. If then I NEED the same model I have blades heat treated to grab and finish out.

I'm a part time maker and when I have the time I complete one knife a week. Due to a change in careers, I now have been completing one to two knives a month.
