How Many Knives do you need?

In "theory" I should I'll be set with my RSK, Endura, Raven, and a keyring Spyderco/Bryd (haven't decided yet, leaning towards Jester).

In actuality I'm sure i'll have more as a BM 710D, 707, Manix and Harpy are on my wishlist although I don't see myself having the funds to buy them for a while.
 
For most day to day activities and living rural, 3 knives is about right. 1) One locking folding in a belt sheath on one side. 2) A good fixed blade on the other side of my belt to do heavier work. 3) A folding lock back with a pocket clip for lighter tasks.
 
There's always something new I'm interested in as far as blades go.

You think knives alone are an expensive hobby? Try being deeply into knives, firearms/reloading, flashlights, and modifying your car (95 LT1 Trans Am M6 for those who care:D ).

It's a wonder I can afford to eat.
 
I keep telling myself that I have plenty of knives for any possible use I might reasonably have. Yesterday, I was looking at some of the Knives of Alaska models. Nice Blades!! It never really stops. Same applies to guns and fishing equipment.

Speaking of how many you need. It depends on how you use a knife. I carry a knife every single day in my pocket. I am not hung up on the tactical blades or the assisted open folders. I find them kind of cool, but I have never in my life needed such a thing. And if I did, I probably would make a pretty poor showing of myself using such a knife.

For years I thought fixed blades a waste of money. If I need an axe, I'll use an axe. If I want to skin or field dress an animal, I had a sharp pocket knife handy. Of late, I have been buying fixed blade knives, but I often don't use them as I keep grabbing my folders. I guess it is what you get used to.

I am set on a course to use at least one of my fixed blades to field dress a deer this fall (if I get one). I will be using the SOG Hunter Revolver and have a good pocket knife for a back up.
 
My girlfriend told me that I need a different folder for every day of the year. But then I need fixed blades....
 
I don't really know how many I need...

So, I guess the best answer I can give you is "more".

I always think "after this one I've got it." "I've found the one I'll just use for the rest of my life and never worry about anything." Then I find some inescapable flaw that prompts me to buy another to upgrade or replace. Then I think "well I have one for this task, but maybe the one for this other task may not live up." Thus begins the vicious cycle. Right now a fixed blade neck knife (little one), a big folder (soon to be replace by a Buck Strider), and an SAK. That keeps me goin as far as work and everyday stuff goes.
 
Every day my needs shift. I thought I needed a lot more clipped EDC folders. Then I got my Manix and I realized I don't need any more of those right now. Then, suddenly, I realized that I needed a bunch of traditional folders, that my collection was seriously lacking in that department. I bought a few and then I realized that I need a whole lot more. I just bought my first really nice Case and I realized that I'm going to need a LOT more of those. Luckily, my needs manage to magically fluctuate in direct proportion to the amount of expendable funds in my bank account. So far.

How many wives did Casanova needs?
 
I really only need one. A small Sebenza in my pocket makes me a pretty happy guy. I buy others sometimes because I want to check them out or just for fun, but I don't need them. I need my small Sebenza or similar knife for EDC to be happy...the rest I buy and sell just to entertain myself.

I think we all do some of that. Knives come and knives go, and we are happy with that; as it is all part of the discovery. It isnt about a perfect knife destination at all. It is all about the journey!
 
There should be two questions her.

Q. How many knives do you need? Two or three at the most, depending on what you use them for.:p

Q. how many knives do you WANT? As many as I can afford!:D
 
nope. I just bought another! a Strider PT digicam that was for sale in the exchange forum!

Its not my fault! I was helpless before it! But I will feel better soon!
 
The ones I need, I just bought within the last 3 weeks,a Microtech Troodon,a Emerson CQC7 Waved,Combat Combat Elite RRF Auto and a Wilson Tactical #1 Tactical. Its the others that haunt me in my sleep!!!!!!!!
 
I'm new to this board but give the same answer to my wife. How many pair of shoes do you need? You have how many black pairs? I have a knives like your accesories. Some for dress, hunting, utility, pleasure, then there are the ones for when I am in a different mood, or when the weather changes...

She walks away ans tells me I'm an *ss. She never asks anymore.
