I own 10
nothing top of the line but decent and functional

I just like what i can do with a knife

I own about 16-18 customs, Bowies mostly as that is what I intrested in collecting.
I probally own 80-100 if not more production knives mostly case slipjoints, 40-50 of the as a callection for my son. All of the rest are just users for around the house, camping, hunting, fishing, and EDC
That facination in the customs is that they are handmade a form of art like any other.
The users are just that been carrying a knife of some sort for almost 40 years.

Probably 500-700. Mostly just productions. I can't explain it or justify it other than I enjoy the hobby.

at this time i have 44, i had 55 but i wanted to cut down and start getting higher end production folders, so i started trading and selling the ones i don't see myself using. i thinking i want to get down to at least 30 folders if not 25.

Maybe a bit over a dozen. I have quite a variety of custom/semicustom and production. For me, a knife is a daily companion. It gives me good memories of my youth. They also act as a type of worry stone or totem for me. They are relaxing to sharpen, use and even just feel. I love my knives much more than just tools

I have about 12 that gets rotated as EDC's. Mostly production folders from 2.5" to 3.5". Although I've been fascinated with 'little big knives' lately.:)

A lot... like Ankerson said. Actually I have never done a FULL inventory probably because I might not know where all of them are. I have knives stashed everywhere from the shed's, garage, car, hunting bads, BOB bags etc. It would take alot for me to find them all get them together and take a count. I have a good # of customs but most are productions, alot of SAK's and folders. I also have over 20 swords (not including machetes) and 20 + axes of different flavors.

I'd say my interest is when growing up I didnt have alot of money, my dad gave me my first pocket knife and I fell in love with using it. When I was able to afford my own I bought and learned and the process repeated. I love that a knife can be a tool, a weapon, art etc and it can be so simple or so complex. I use knives everyday for all sorts of things and I feel like I am always buying and selling to get new ones to find "the one" though I know there is never going to be "the one".

Many. Certainly more than I need. ALL Hobby enthusiasts share the same tendencies.
Golfers do not have "a Bag" they have a room full of clubs and training devices. Gun guys have safes full of guns and then one with ammo. Knife guys are no different.
As long as the family is still being fed, clothed and sheltered.... let the collecting continue.

I have just finished an inventory. 146 knives - to my surprise. That is probably not final, but pretty close.
Two thirds are production folders. The rest - fixed blades, most of which I have made myself from blade blanks. It is a good hobby - very enjoyable. Nothing more, nothing less.

What a coincidence, that's how many I have too!

What's the fascination? Darned if I know...I'm the same way with guns, cameras and tools. I just really enjoy mechanical gizmos.

I tried to learn to play bass guitar some years ago. I ended up with five
of them that I bought second hand off eBay back when it was young. I ended up selling four of them the same way..and I still can't play the one I kept.

I honestly have no idea. It's easily over 150 at this point. I've sold a few a few months ago. I really enjoy using the various steels, handle materials, etc.

Less than 10. I have the four pocket knives that I've carried for 55+ years combined, the Ontario pilot knife that Uncle Sam gave me 40yrs ago, a khukri in the RV for chopping and a couple of others dedicated to specific tasks.

I'm not a collector...just a user.

6, all production folders. I can't justify buying hundreds of knives on a Christmas-and-birthday-money budget. i would rather spend 15 bucks on materials, heat treat it myself, and and then make a semi-ok chopper out of it. besides, my dream knife is a damascus blade with a handle that has blue flames on black wood. where can i get that, production?

I own 3. I am not a collector, nor am I interested in being a collector.

-An AL MAR SESRE 2000 for EDC
-AN ESEE-3 for EDC in a custom IWB kydex sheath
-An ESEE-6 on my Bug-Out-Bag for general usage where my smaller knives won't get the job done

An amount way beyond practical necessity and way short of fanatical desirability. ;)
