How Many Knives Have You Given Away Or Gifted................

Gave away a Swamp Rat Swamp Warden to a retired marine buddy of mine when he had to move to another state unexpectedly to take care of his mom. Months later, I was pleased to find out that he used the Warden to skin an elk.

Maybe 20 or so.

Mostly factory knives, but I've given away a few of my own knives also.

Gee, don't recall all. The most recent ones were
SAK's
Kershaw fixed hunter with brass pommel and guard
a spanish-made katana
a custom dagger
an antique Hubertus Springmesser (flick knife)
and loads of flashlights (fenix, inova, mag)

I didn't give not a single to anyone up till.

I wish I knew more folks to whom I could give a knife. I've given a half-dozen to family members (mostly my kids) and did a give-away here at my 1,000th post.

Quite a few. A couple to my wife, several to my son, several to various brother's in law, nephews, nieces, my mother, friends....... I just don't know. I like to give khuks to male relatives, and pretty little Case folders to female relatives.

I've been toying with the idea of carrying an extra quality cheapy (Spyderco Byrd, or similar) that I can just give to folks who seem to need one.

I've gifted or given away several knives. I have found that one of the best knives to gift is the Spyderco Kiwi 3. It's inexpensive, comes in a nice little box, and consistently gets positive feedback to those who receive it--especially from older fellas who might not have even looked at 'weird-looking' Spydercos if they were shopping for themselves (like my dad.) My old man isn't much of a knife-guy per se, but always carries a folder. He likes something thin and flat that he can drop loose into his pocket. When he lost his regular carry a few months ago, I sent him a new Kiwi 3 and he really digs it--especially the choil that allows him to get a better grip with his giant farmer mitts. It was a bit of a lift to have it so well-received.

Only one so far: a Kershaw Skyline to my brother for his birthday. Not sure if he actually uses it, but I enjoyed giving it nonetheless. If I could do it again I might go for an assisted opener like a Blur just because it has more "wow" factor. I plan on getting my dad a Swisstool Spirit at some point since he always liked SAK stuff and he's getting into arts and crafts now that he's retired.

Several used chef knives to co-workers, as I upgraded.
Cold Steel has been a source of gifts for knives to relatives and friends. Throwers, a chef knife, a Spike or two, a fillet knife, and a plastic spike thing.
I've given away a few nicer knives as well. A SOG Seal to a retired Navy vet, an ESEE HEST, Ontario Kukri, and a Shrade survival knife to my Brother were all more recent.

Gifting is great, thou finding the right blade for the right person is key. I just realized my Stepfather has a drawer full of knives. I didn't know that, and now I know what he has. I got him the CS filet knife, years ago, and it's still like new, in the kitchen drawer.
I guess I'd rather give gifts that someone will use, not just put in the drawer. Maybe the next one will be used, ya never know.

I've giften kitchen knives, slipjoints, folders, fixed blades, scissors, multitools, etc. One thing people know is that they will usually receive a sharp edged tool from me on any given holiday or birthday. Some new others not so much. :)

Probably 20-30. Most were folding knives. Some I had been using and gave away out of my pocket, some brand new and purchased specifically as gifts. H1 Salts, Spyderco Wegner, BM Mini Grip D2, Delicas, Enduras I guess I've lost count. Only one that I've made has been given as a gift. It wasn't perfect, but for caping hogs I think the hunter in 3V w/ Bos HT beats a sodbuster SS for retention. When knives are your language they seem to find their way into gifts frequently.

If you count SAKs/multitools too...

* Vic Rally (x3) to friends last Christmas
* Vic Classic SD (x2) to friends last Christmas
* Spyderco Persistence to my stepbrother
* Spyderco Dragonfly G-10 to my girlfriend
* Leatherman Style CS to a co-worker

Probably in 70-80 range within the past 10 years. Some to friends, some to family, and some to people I've never met.

4. A Marttiini Leuku for my stepdad, a CRKT Minimalist for my stepsister and a CRKT Lumabiner and Opinel 9 for my mom.

+/- 20, mostly multitools. Only a few were dedicated folders, maybe 3 or 4. Very few of my friends carry knives these days.

I have gifted four knives but to only two people. The first person received a Gerber STL 2.5 (a small key chain knife) and a cold steel Ty-lite. The second again received a Gerber presto 2.5 and a SOG elite 1. Neither of my friends are "knife people" but they both had expressed a fondness for those knives and the knives were not particular favorites of mine, so I though I would indulge their interest.

I actually keep track of every knife I buy, sell, trade or gift. haha. knife nerd! Here's what I've gifted in the last few years to friends/family/etc. :

Boker Wharcom
Buck Vantage Small
CRKT M Kit Carson
Kershaw Leek
Kershaw Scallion
Mora # 2
Sog Twitch/ Twitch 2
Spyderco Ladybug
Assortment of Sanrenmu knives
