How Many Knives Have You Had Confiscated?

One. A cheap S&W folder I turned in at jump school and never got back. I was a young and inexperienced NCO and when they told me no weapons, including knives, I handed it to one of the admin pukes. I learned from my mistake and now live by "better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission"

I don't even tell the police if I am carrying a gun let alone a knife if I am stopped because of a routine traffic infraction. I figure, why would they care? I'm not going to yank it out. They are just doing their job. Guess I was never frisked in my whole life and have trouble even thinking a LEO would be suspicious. If they asked, I would tell them of course.

I figure that 'tis better to not have them find on their own something that could cause alarm. I've never been frisked (despite repeated pleas to a few of our female officers in our area) either, never gotten in any trouble except for some traffic infractions. I've also never given any reason to be. Still, full disclosure has worked for me. Guess there's someone up there wathing over my knives.

BTW, NEVER yank it out in front of a cop. Creepy and illegal. Ewww.

In 2004 I had to give up a Swiss Army knife at the airport. I don't remember the model, but it had a saw blade. I got it from my employer with an inlaid diamond signifying 5 years service. I didn't think it was worth the cost of shipping it to me so I just abandoned it.

umm, i picked up a black military about 3 weeks ago. instantly fell in love with it. it have become the edc knife i forget thats in my pocket which to me means a lot. that being said i show up with some friends at the county fair for a beer and a few laughs. i pay for admission and as soon as i walk in i see a huge sign saying no weapons allowed. then i see a small like with a security pat down and police supervising. at this point my jeep was about a mile away down a gravel parking lot which i was not walking back to leave it in the car. so i just pulled the cop aside and told him and showed him my military id, he then gave me his cell number and told me to text him in a hour when he was off so he could come grab a beer with us ha. so it was a close call but it turned out to be no problem and i even made a friend lol

I've had to surrender a micro leatherman and a SAK at the airport over the years when catching flights but that's been it. Simply forgot to take them off the keychain.

10-4. Live in California :-) Their limit is a reasonable 4" from what I gather. I've never been hassled about a knife and been carrying about 10 years. I guess I don't look too shady to anyone :)

In state, Cali Penal Code 653k does not state a legal blade length so anything is a go for open carry, Bali's and auto's are safe to carry under 2"

City ordinances will be more strict 3" max (Bay Area, LA, SD, etc)

I've never had a knife confiscated, but there were several close calls. I was flying and had forgotten I had a knife on my that day, had to chuck it in the bin. Thankfully it was only a cheapo Walmart knife. A second one as a few friends and I were up to some mischief, I lost the knife I had on that day, a Sheffield and Sons Bushcrafter in O1.

0 knives confiscated. I live in NY. Man, does NY have a stigma attached to it or what?

None. I've never been searched by the police, in fact I almost never have contact with the police and I can count the number of times that I took an airplane to get somewhere on two fingers.

Me too. It was pretty lame, I used that thing all the time.

I had a switchblade taken once too. Got it for my 15th birthday, from a friend. A couple weeks later, some buds and I were goofing off in the yoga room at the gym, and had the MP's called on us (lived on an AF Base). A worker hauled us into their breakroom and detained us till the officers showed. We all got searched, and I told the guy what was in my shoe (thought I could hide it but they were checking shoes too). He and the other officers seemed shocked. Long story short, I got in a decent amount of trouble.

None. I live in Australia and have never lost a knife to customs or police. A few years back I was seeing my son off at the airport - he was travelling to a cadet camp interstate. Security found a SAK in his webbing that he planned to carry on. They were pretty good about it and let me take the knife home rather than confiscate it.

Some a-hole rent a cops at an amusement park insisted they saw me pull into the parking lot drinking from a beer can. They proceeded to search my car which ultimately found no alcohol but rather a bali I had since I was a kid. I was super pissed but had no recourse. I was arrested with a normark folder, I miss that one.

Gee, I wonder why?

The New York City District Attorney is encouraged to go after knives, because he shook down companies like Home Depot, Orvis, and five others for 1.9 million dollars. The companies that paid off rewarded the DA.

Thus encouraged, he claimed this was "only the beginning," and that they were now going after "out of state" dealers, and that he would "use the internet as an investigative tool."

He also said in his press conference that part of that 1.9 million was being set aside to be split among ANY COUNTY in New York State that would join him in this money grab. He is trying to take this state wide.

So you have a NYC DA who has announced he's going after knives, going after out of state dealers, and going after them through the internet. What would you have done other than what Knife Center did?

Knife Center has obviously taken a cautious course under these circumstances--as anyone would who did not want "test-case" after their name. They are not alone.

I will not ship a lockback knife into New York State should anyone win it in my current Knifemaking Legends auction. I would be happy to ship it to New Jersey, to a friend outside NY, or to a non-New York location.

If you are offended because someone takes a NYC DA at his word when he says he's going after knives I suggest your anger is misplaced, and that instead of being unhappy with a dealer who is being forced into this situation, that instead you focus your energies on being sure this NYC DA and those who support him are defeated in the next election.

I've never had any knives or items confiscated because of anything that I've done.

But.........

During my freshmen year of college, my roommate tried to kill himself. Before he could return to school, security came into our room when no one was there and took every sharp object in the room including 3 knives and 2 pairs of scissors that belonged to me. I quickly replaced them and had them confiscated all over again about 1 month later.

I started keeping my stuff elsewhere... :)

In early 1979 during the last days of the civil unrest that brought down the Shah-run Iranian govenrment, I got stuck in an Isfahan traffic stop put up by anti government rebels. They took my Buck 110 that I had got for H.S. graduation. I didnt argue one bit and considered myself lucky to have gotten out that easy. If I forget and go to the airport with one now, I usually stash it under a pile of magazines at the gift shop and pick it up on my way back through. Just pick an unpopular mag.--KV
