How many knives is reasonable to carry every day ?

Funny thing, when I was a police officer I could carry as many as I wanted and as big a folder as I wanted. Now that I have traded in the duty belt for a shirt and tie job, anything close to three inches gets stares. Now I just carry two SAK's, the small classic and an Officer's model. I also carry a Leatherman PST II in my brief case.

Sheeple are a pain.

I normally carry 3. A small Victorinox, a medium locking folder, and a large locking folder. I have carried as many as six. The most I carr on a regular basis is 5. And that is to/in the office.

I saw a picture of someone at a Blade show. Had a couple of guys helping him show off his carry knives. I thought that amount was unreasonable. Then I realised I was just jealous. I think it was Dexter Ewing.

To determine the reasonable amount start with two knives and walk around in public. Then add two more at a time. When people start looking at you funny reduce by one at a time until the stares and whispering stops. You have arrived at the reasonable amount

Also, if you take 5 or more minutes determining which is the correct and most effecient knife to use, you have too many knives. Please mail all excess to me

Call me crazy (everyone else does) but I carry one knife. I looked for a knife that would meet 95% of whatever I would need a knife to do, and I find a way to make it work for the other 5%.

Now if I were a stealth Ninja-tron covert ops warrior I'd carry about 50. But momma won't let me.

Brandon, you have achieved knife-irvana early, my friend. I, on the other hand (and what appears to be most of the other knife users on earth) am still looking for that knife that does 95% of what I want it too. That is the reason that I have so many knives. I think the best I've found so far is probably around 60%. Tops. Heck, even with 3-5, I'm only hitting about 88%.

At work (shipping dept. at a tool and die shop) I carry a small SAK and a Schrade 8OT stockman. The stockman does most of the work while the tiny SAK files down broken fingernails and pulls splinters from my fingers. (Not very often, thankfully!)

On the street just the little SAK. You'd be surprised what a little knowledge and a pair of steel-toed engineers boots will do to those that would bother you.

Camping, on the other hand, means being prepared. Got to have enough knives! Start with the small SAK again. (I even carried one on my wedding day.) A large SAK with all the tools, a Schrade 897UH stockman for whittling
a Buck 602 as an overall camp knife and a USMC Ka-bar just for the heck of it. (Looks cool hanging from your web gear.)

I only carry three now. Two that I like and do most of the work, usually one Wharncliffe and one clip. Another for the sheeple.

(Damn I miss the shipping dept!

It all depends on IF and how many pockets your pants have... I generally carry two - a small sak on the keys and a Spyderco Standard in the backpocket... but then there are times.. like Ice Fishing with a Gerber
Mark I in the sleeve of the snowmobile suit and another in the boot .. or .. well .. you get the picture !

I usually have at least three:

Puma folding hunter (magic lock)
Buck Squire (master series, BG-42)
Eye Brand stockman

And depending on the situation, one or more of the following: Moki Glory, Benchmade mini-AFCK, Kissing Crane canoe, or Opinel #8. In the pack is usually a SAK and Camillus USMC for heavier work on campouts.

Reasonable? Boy that can mean different things to different people! For off-days when I'm not at work I usually have 4-5 on me:

Sebenza
RJM Handiman neck knife
Spyderco Native
Multi-Tool
Leatherman Micra

BUT...while at work (military) I'm completely unreasonable

Just because BDUs are so easy to conceal knives with I tend to carry many more than needed (just developed into a habit

MD Pygmy ATAK
Nealy Pesh Kabz
RJM Handiman (or REKAT Hobbit Fang)
Sebenza
Emerson Commander
Spyderco Military
MT DA/SOCOM
Mission MPF
BM 710 Axis
Swiss Tool
Spyderco Remote Release
SAK Huntsman
Executive Edge Grande

These all are "reasonably" comfortalbe to carry

But I sometimes substitute others just to spice up the day. Ya...that's about 8 or 10 too many, but it's been more of a hobby (habit) than a practical or "reasonable" number to carry...heck, I've earned my KNIVE KNUT MEMBERSHIP Card

I only carry one pocket knife, a BM 730 or Mini AFCK, and my leatherman wave. Both get used quite a bit, as I work in a restuarant. No one comments on my knives, since we all use 10" chef knives anyways, and then there's that 24" scimitar around to cut the watermelon.

It's nice working in a place where lotsa knives elicit no comment, and your coworkers are envious, not scared.

cheers

Depends on where I am and what I'm doing. I usually carry two medium-sized folders that clip inside the waistband of my suit. One is for everyday chores; the other stays unused and REAL sharp, and is reserved for personal defense should the need ever arise.

I used to also carry a SOG mini multi-tool (mostly for the pliers), but after I lost the third one I just gave up.

For normal day to day stuff two, a BM 705 on me and a Swiss Army in the briefcase.

In the boat a BM 350 W/combo edge on my belt(small blade does'nt mess up compass). In the tool box, BM 710, Leatherman and a old Buck rigging knife. In the abandon ship survival bag a Leatherman Wave & small Gerber folder. In the dive kit an old Randal Mod. 15 Airman. In the fishing tackle boxes there is a assortment of old and new knifes (about five). I guess I look like a floating knife show but they all come in handy.

3 or four, depending on if you mean knives or blades. I usually have my Small Sebenza, my Victorinox Cybertool 29 SAK, and a my LM Wave (two knives in one!).

Had to dump them all out at a federal bldg last week... They didn't seem to care that I had them, just didn't want me to carry them around the bldg.
