How many knives is too many?

I'd LIKE to be able to have just a few good knives. 4 actually, 2 fixed blades and 2 folders...and of course one multi-tool:

One all-purpose, nice looking, not too small/not too big fixed blade for out in the bush.

One mid-sized, grippy, easy-access fixed blade for self defense.

One good folder for out in the bush (My Buck 110 seems to fit the bill).

And a one handed, grippy folder for self defense and/or general utility (when fixed blade carry is difficult or less practical depending on clothing or situation/location)

And of course my Leatherman Wave.

So far i have or have owned a Victorinox alox Secretary, Victorinox Outrider, Buck 373, Buck 55, Buck 110, Buck 119, 154CM Camillus EDC, CRKT Mt Rainier (older, with AUS 6 steel) CRKT F4, a Mora, 3 hand made hunters, a Leatherman Wave, some junkers...

Out of that, i only really use the 110, Wave and 119.

Finally a difinitive answer to the age-old question. I've often wondered myself how many was too many, and had no idea. But notice the qualifier, "More than that may be too many." So it's possible that the correct answer is actually much higher than one thousand?

How many you got LJK, and is it too many? :)

Well, I think when you approach a thousand, especially nice old carbon steel knives, it's hard to maintain them properly.

Tell you what, if anyone feels they have too many knives, feel free to send them to me! I have two. That should solve any of your guilty feelings about having too many knives! :D

Too many for what? :D

Thank you Jeff Clark! You have made me feel much better about myself. Too bad you're not a therapist, or else I'd hire you.... :D

I have a bunch of knives. I also have a bunch of guns. However, each of the guns in my closet serve a different purpose: target, defense, bowling pin, metallic critters, etc.. The problem is that my knives don't seem to be as clearly defined.

I know that I don't have as many knives as most of you but I do know that I have far more knives than most people that I know.

Now the problem. Most of my knives just sit in a drawer. For daily carry, I have a Kershaw assisted opening knife which is nice when you need a knife and one hand is busy. For dress up I have a small Camillus lock back.

Now what do I do with the other ten knives (plus two Leatherman tools)?

Do you knife enthusiasts rotate your carry knives on a regular basis?

Do most people think that you are odd for having more than one knife?
I have like 15 outdoor knives, 7 folding knives, and 6 machetes. I know I have a problem. That said, some of knives are now worth 3 times what I paid for them. I figure I'll keep them, and wait for them to become collectors items.

You only have 10 knives?! 😳 Please don't tell me you only have 10 guns....

The major defining aspect of obsessive-compulsive disorder is that continuing to obsess over some thing such as hand washing or checking the front door locks adversly impct oone's quality of life. If buying knives eats up your bedgetd rent or grocery money, thn yes, you have too many knives.

However, if your life is going well in all other areas then adopt this motto:

TOO KUCH IS NEVER ENOUGH

Some musician (can't remember who) said: people claim that I drink too much... I'd say everyone drinks too little.
I feel the same way but with knives.
